The Prince George's County Office of Central Services is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Senior Mail Services Operator (Mail Services Operator III)grade G14position, in the General Services Division.
About the Position
Prince George's County Office of Central Services is seeking qualified applicants to fill a Mail Services Operator III, grade G-14, within its General Services Division. This is advanced senior and lead work in the daily performance of general mail, courier and mailroom activities, which includes the sorting and posting of mail, the operation and maintenance of mail processing equipment, and picking up and delivering mail on a scheduled and predetermined basis. The selected candidate will assist the Mail Services Supervisor in the general administration of the section and provide guidance and assistance to subordinate level positions. The employee may assume the duties and responsibilities of the supervisor in their absence. Work performance is evaluated by the supervisor based upon the achievement of a timely courier and mail pick-up and delivery system. This is an essential position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of US Postal Service rate schedules.
  • Experience operating computerized direct addressing and labeling equipment.
  • Experience operating a six-pocket inserter.
  • Experience operating a high-speed tabber.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal regulations for handling mail to lead unit operations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair machines.

  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to excessive heat, cold, humidity, dampness, dry atmospheric conditions, and intermittent dust.
  • Requires the ability to perform rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; have good near and far vision (correctable), depth perception, and the ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Hearing aids are permitted.
  • Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.
  • Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties.
  • Successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings.
  • Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. This is an essential position. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.

General Plan Information:
The Prince George's County benefits plan year is from January 1 to December 31.
A spouse (to include a same sex spouse) can be added to the health benefit plans. A marriage certificate and social security number is required to add a spouse.
Children under the age of 26 are eligible for coverage under the health benefit plans. This includes stepchildren and children of the same-sex spouse. A birth certificate(s) and social security number(s) is required to add a child(ren).
