Job description

Mammography Technologist with Biopsy Navigation

AMI is seeking a full time Mammography Technologist to join the team in the Somers Point office. This position includes Biopsy Navigation.

The Mammography Technologist with Biopsy Navigation works as a liaison with the breast health team, assisting with coordination of all aspects of screening mammography, diagnostic imaging, biopsies, clinical evaluation, support services and education for women receiving services at the breast center.

The Mammography Technologist with Biopsy Navigation is responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Performs mammography and Dexa examinations, as the schedule permits, according to the technical standards established by the radiology department.
  • Completes the responsibilities of a Mammography Technologist.
  • Monitors and coordinates patient scheduling and preparation for breast biopsies, MRI, ultrasound and stereotactic core biopsy. Educates patients about the various procedures she will undergo. When appropriate, will provide education about breast self-examination.
  • Educates and follows-up with women who receive abnormal breast cancer-screening results to ensure easy access from diagnostic evaluation to biopsy, if needed.
  • Contacts the referring physician when patients are found to require further diagnostic evaluation and/or breast biopsy.
  • If appropriate for patient care, they will remain with the patient during biopsies for moral support. Assists with breast biopsy as needed.
  • Participates in tracking breast biopsy outcomes and medical audits.
  • Oversees staff training and assignments in Biopsy procedures and informs Office Administrator of any staffing concerns, such as staff callouts. Delegates tasks among the breast team to optimize efficiency and appropriate patient care.
  • Participates in aftercare and follow-up of patients who have had needle biopsies. If requested to do so by the breast imaging radiologist, notifies patients of benign biopsy results.
  • Participates in data input of pathology reports into the MagView program.
  • Oversees and manages Biopsy supplies and inventory.
  • Assists with MQSA inspections and ACR certifications
  • Performs other duties as required and assigned.

The work schedule includes Monday-Friday, eight (8) hour day shifts, with rotating Saturdays as needed. Coverage will be scheduled in Egg Harbor Township/Black Horse Pike (BHP) as needed.

Candidates must be in good standing with the ARRT Mammography registry, NJ DEP Licensure, and have a current American Heart Association (AHA) or Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Candidates must also be in good, active employment standing at AMI. Candidates must demonstrate strong mammography skills with the ability to perform IV access, or be willing to receive in-house IV training. Additionally, advanced knowledge of clinical indicators, MQSA standards, current screening and diagnostic tools are required. Candidates must have the ability to assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate the physical, emotional, and educational needs of patient. Intermediate computer skills, including the ability to adapt to changing technologies and workflows, are required.
