Job Summary
The Department of English seeks a motivated and creative Student Research Assistant to help relaunch Eclectic Magazine, the University of West Georgia's student literary and arts magazine. After a hiatus since 2020, Eclectic is returning as a showcase for student creativity and expression, featuring original writing, visual art, and other creative works.The Student Research Assistant will play a central role in researching literary magazine best practices, helping define the magazine's mission and scope, coordinating publicity efforts, recruiting student participants, and supporting the editorial and production process. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in publishing, editing, design, marketing, professional writing, creative writing, or arts administration.
Responsibilities
Fall 2026
¿ Research successful university literary magazines and publishing models.
¿ Assist in developing the mission statement and long-term vision for Eclectic Magazine.
¿ Work with faculty and university staff to define the magazine's scope, content categories, and submission guidelines.
¿ Draft and distribute a Call for Submissions.
¿ Promote the magazine through classroom visits, campus outreach, and social media.
¿ Help recruit and organize a student Editorial Board.
¿ Coordinate with the Department Marketing Coordinator on publicity and branding efforts.
¿ Develop or assist with the magazine's visual design template and publication layout.
Spring 2027
¿ Support the Editorial Board and student interns in reviewing submissions.
¿ Assist with communication with contributors.
¿ Help organize editorial workflows and publication schedules.
¿ Participate in copyediting, proofreading, and publication preparation.
¿ Assist with magazine layout and final production.
¿ Help plan and promote the magazine launch event.
Required Qualifications
  • Current University of West Georgia student in good academic standing.
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Interest in literary publishing, creative writing, editing, marketing, or student publications.
  • Passion for creating content and community

  • Interest in Graphic Design

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with graphic design, publication layout, or digital media.
  • Familiarity with Adobe InDesign, Canva, or similar design software.

  • Interest in leadership, community-building, and event planning.
  • Publication experience (as a writer and/or editor)
  • Design experience
