Job description

**JOB DESCRIPTION** **Job Title: Lifeguard
Job Code:774003** Status: Non-exempt **I.DEPARTMENT FUNCTION/JOB OVERVIEW** Ensures safe and clean environment for all users of the ProActive aquatic facility. Ensures compliance with State regulations. Lifeguards and may teach swim lessons. Work will be performed in an ethical and legal manner following organizational policies, processes, protocols and procedures. Responsible for quality service delivery and internal/external customer relations for Madonna as a whole, including upholding the mission and values for the department and facility. **II**. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS** (INFORMATION) 1. Ensures pools, decks, and furniture are clean and all walkways are free of obstructions. 2. Drains and cleans hot tubs, sanitizes steam and saunas, and chemical shocks pool per instruction. 3. All duties are to be logged on the aquatics checklist. (PEOPLE) 1. Supervises aquatics area to ensure members and guests have a safe and clean environment. 2. Identifies unsafe conditions and resolves issues immediately. 3. Reports and documents all incidents on incident reporting form. 4. Ensures all lap swimmers, group exercise participants, patients, and other users have access to their respective activities. 5. Resolves conflicts between members immediately and reports incidents to supervisor and MOD and logs issues accordingly. 6. Lifeguards must have excellent customer service skills in meeting member needs, resolving complaints, and creating programs and policies to facilitate excellent customer relations. 7. Frequent supervision and interaction with children of all ages. 8. Supports and cross-sells all ProActive departments, programs and services. 9. Maintains active involvement in all ProActive special events and programs. 10. Follows direction from supervisor to perform other functions as assigned in order to achieve the goals of ProActive. (THINGS) 1. Under the direction of the Aquatic Supervisor, maintain pool facilities including cleanliness of pools and decks. 2. Contacts supervisor or maintenance as needed to insure all aquatic facilities and equipment remain in excellent working condition. 3. Lifeguards with CPR/AED lifeguard training certification may teach swim lessons. 4. Maintain and ensure a safe environment for the department. Handles and operates all necessary equipment and performs required duties according to established safety standards to maintain compliance with regulations and prevent injury. **III. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS** Must have constant near visual acuity with ordinary hearing and speaking skills. Must be able to lift in excess of 50 pounds in order to complete lifesaving and rescue techniques. Frequent lift and carry of 25 pounds. Requires frequent bending, stooping, reaching, feeling and handling. Must tolerate occasional to frequent horizontal reaching with both arms. Frequent grasping of both hands requiring normal grip strength based on national averages. Must tolerate prolonged exposure to high temperature and humidity and to biohazardous materials, including pool chemicals. May be exposed to blood or body fluids. **IV. QUALIFICATIONS** (Education/training and/or Experience) Must be 16 years of age or older. High school diploma preferred. Must be and maintain current certification as a lifeguard. Lifeguard training certification required. CPR/AED certification required prior to hire date. Recertification required prior to expiration. Background checking is conducted on applicants for this position with the agencies as required by Nebraska State regulations, in addition to any other agencies as determined by Madonna. Applicants must sign authorization forms (when required by the agency) to release information to Madonna.
