What is a macOS Swift developer?

A macOS Swift developer is a software engineer who specializes in building applications for Apple's macOS operating system using the Swift programming language. These professionals leverage Swift's modern features to create native desktop applications that run efficiently and integrate seamlessly with the Mac ecosystem. They are skilled in using Apple's development tools, such as Xcode, and adhere to macOS design guidelines to deliver user-friendly and high-performance apps.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a macOS Swift developer?

To thrive as a macOS Swift developer, you need strong proficiency in Swift programming, familiarity with macOS frameworks like Cocoa, and typically a degree in computer science or related experience. Experience with Xcode, Interface Builder, Git, and knowledge of Apple's Human Interface Guidelines are commonly required. Problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication set outstanding developers apart in this field. These abilities are critical for building high-quality, user-friendly macOS applications that meet both user needs and platform standards.

What are some common challenges macOS Swift developers face when integrating new features with existing legacy codebases?

MacOS Swift developers often encounter challenges when adding new features to legacy codebases, which may have been written in Objective-C or older versions of Swift. Ensuring compatibility between languages, managing code refactoring, and maintaining consistency in coding standards can be complex. Developers need to carefully test for regressions and coordinate closely with QA and other engineers to ensure smooth integration. Utilizing bridging headers and modularizing code can help, but patience and strong communication skills are vital in these scenarios.

Job description

Overview

As a global leader in cybersecurity, CrowdStrike protects the people, processes and technologies that drive modern organizations. Since 2011, our mission has been to stop breaches and we’ve redefined modern security with the world’s most advanced AI‑native platform.

About the Role

You’ll be joining our macOS Sensor Foundation team supporting CrowdStrike’s flagship Falcon endpoint protection platform. The team is responsible for core sensor components in user space (C++, Swift). We build and maintain the macOS sensor, creating and/or building a platform for products and features that empower customers with prevention, detection, and response capabilities.

Location: This role is hybrid, requiring 2‑3 days per week on‑site at one of the posted locations.

What You’ll Do

CrowdStrike Falcon Host is a two‑component security product. One component is a “sensor”: a driver installed on client machines that observes system activity and recognizes malicious behavior, then provides on‑box prevention capability and remote telemetry to the Falcon Host cloud. The sensor processes thousands of events per second to provide deep visibility into operations on the endpoint, and performs rich correlation and computation to identify malicious events and block malicious activity. The cloud component aggregates sensor telemetry for each customer’s network, correlates malicious behavior across multiple machines, and presents our customers’ operations teams with a prioritized summary of the threats detected in their environments. This is an Engineer3 – macOS Engineer role that delivers the sensor (lightweight agent) on macOS. Engineers in the team own design and development of core features on the platform. Features will cross‑cut most core OS subsystems such as file system, memory, process, and networking. Many features are also built in a way that they will have shared components across Windows and Linux.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop software for deployment on macOS systems.
  • Own features from design to delivery.
  • Collaborate with multi‑functional teams in various physical locations.
  • Troubleshoot issues with the product as reported from customers responsively.
  • Participate in other projects as assigned.
What You’ll Need

Can develop high‑quality code in C/C++ and Swift, and can demonstrate that capability, through job experience, schoolwork, or contributions to community projects.

Experience on macOS developing product code with the following characteristics:

  • High concurrency requirements needing strong use of multi‑threading.
  • High reliability requirements with detailed requirements on low‑level operating characteristics (memory usage, efficient performance, correct conformance to external standards).

Experience working on a team to ship major features and releases.

Able to communicate, collaborate, and work effectively in a distributed team.

Proven experience utilizing AI technologies to enhance decision‑making, streamline workflows and processes, improve efficiency and drive business outcomes.

Bonus Points
  • Prior experience working on Endpoint products, Cyber Security space, or networking technologies (e.g., network security, network protocols, or network infrastructure).
Benefits of Working at CrowdStrike
  • Market leader in compensation and equity awards.
  • Comprehensive physical and mental wellness programs.
  • Competitive vacation and holidays for recharge.
  • Paid parental and adoption leaves.
  • Professional development opportunities for all employees regardless of level or role.
  • Employee Networks, geographic neighborhood groups, and volunteer opportunities to build connections.
  • Vibrant office culture with world‑class amenities.
  • Great Place to Work Certified™ across the globe.
Equal Employment Opportunity

CrowdStrike is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to fostering a culture of belonging where everyone is valued for who they are and empowered to succeed. We support veterans and individuals with disabilities through our affirmative action program. CrowdStrike is committed to providing equal employment opportunity for all employees and applicants for employment.
