Description

Summary:

The Shift Machining Supervisor is primarily responsible for leading the designated shift in the machining department and providing day-to-day work direction for the machining team. Secondary responsibilities include ensuring production schedule adherence, meeting production Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and troubleshooting production issues. These functions are performed in a fast-paced manufacturing environment that produces existing and new products.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Continually strive to improve workplace safety and enforce compliance with Company environmental, health, and safety standards and policy
  • Provide technical development and mentoring for machinists and setup technicians to improve skills and capabilities within the department
  • Develop, troubleshoot machine programs as needed, in conjunction with department leadership and CNC Engineering
  • Enforce compliance with Company policy and administer disciplinary action as appropriate
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities in the machining processes and assist management with implementing those changes from idea to realization. 
  • Assist in training of setup operators and machine operators on multiple machine platforms
  • Work with Design Engineering as required to resolve manufacturing issues and strive to improve manufacturability of product design 
  • Assist in implementing and managing an effective machine data collection system
  • Create and maintain machine shop documentation and provide work instructions to ensure process control
  • Review time and attendance for department and submit to payroll in timely manner
  • Ensure proper housekeeping and segregation/collection of scrap materials and waste

Requirements

Required Skills / Experience / Equipment Operation:

  • 5+ years Supervisory experience and proven ability to effectively lead individuals and teams.
  • 10+ years experience and training in metal machine shop practices.
  • Expertise in operation and set up of both manual and CNC metal machining equipment 
  • Knowledge in reading and interpreting engineering drawings
  • General CNC Programming capability for multiple platforms (Horizontal Mills, Vertical Mills, Sub-Spindle Lathes, etc.).
  • Must display and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Must have a continuous improvement mindset and be able to present and implement positive change

Physical/Mental Essential Functions:

  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to reach above shoulders
  • Ability to walk back and forth through-out facility
  • Ability to control operation with hand or foot
  • Ability to lift / carry up to 70 pounds.
  • Ability to turn wrist frequently in repetitive motion

Working Conditions:

  • Work environment is fast paced. Work is primarily conducted on the shop floor.
