The Senior Machining Estimator is a key contributor to overall growth strategy, responsible for evaluating opportunities and ensuring accurate, competitive pricing. This role requires deep expertise in CNC machining, strong technical interpretation skills, and the ability to translate complex engineering requirements into precise cost models.
In this position, you will assess RFQs, evaluate manufacturability, define machining strategies, and develop detailed estimates for both prototype and production work. You'll partner closely with Business Development, Engineering, and Shop Leadership to ensure the right opportunities are pursued while maintaining strong margins.
Key ResponsibilitiesReview RFQ packages, including technical drawings, CAD models, specifications, and quality requirements
Analyze part geometry, tolerances, GD&T, and material requirements to determine optimal manufacturing approaches
Develop machining strategies and operation sequences, primarily within multi-axis CNC milling environments
Accurately estimate cycle times, setup requirements, tooling, and labor costs
Assess fixturing strategies and identify potential production constraints or bottlenecks
Prepare detailed cost estimates for both prototype and production machining
Incorporate outside processes (e.g., heat treating, plating, coatings) into overall cost models as needed
Generate and deliver quotes using systems such as Paperless Parts, Excel, and JobBOSS
Collaborate with engineering and shop teams to validate assumptions and improve estimate accuracy
Identify key cost drivers and manufacturability risks early in the quoting process
Support internal pricing strategy discussions and capacity planning initiatives
QualificationsRequired:
5+ years of experience in CNC machining, manufacturing engineering, or machining estimation
Strong knowledge of precision CNC machining processes, with an emphasis on milling
Proven ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T
Experience estimating tight-tolerance components with complex geometries
Highly analytical with strong attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple RFQs in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Preferred:
Experience within aerospace or defense manufacturing environments
Familiarity with Paperless Parts, JobBOSS, or similar ERP/quoting systems
Experience reviewing CAD models using Mastercam, CATIA, or similar tools
Background in estimating both prototype and production machining
Experience working within AS9100 quality systems
