What is machine vision?

Machine vision is a field of technology and engineering that enables computers and machines to interpret and process visual information from the world, typically using cameras and image processing software. It is widely used in industrial automation for tasks such as inspection, measurement, and object recognition. Machine vision systems can analyze images to detect defects, guide robots, and ensure quality control. They play a crucial role in manufacturing, logistics, and many other sectors where visual inspection or guidance is required.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a machine vision engineer?

To thrive as a Machine Vision Engineer, you need strong knowledge of image processing, computer vision algorithms, and programming languages like Python or C++, typically supported by a degree in engineering or computer science. Familiarity with machine vision software (such as OpenCV, HALCON, or MATLAB), industrial cameras, and hardware integration is essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication are standout soft skills in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for developing robust vision systems that ensure accuracy and efficiency in automated inspection and quality control processes.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in machine vision roles?

Professionals in Machine Vision often encounter challenges related to integrating vision systems with existing automation equipment and ensuring reliable performance in variable lighting or environmental conditions. Troubleshooting hardware-software interactions and maintaining accurate image recognition in high-speed production environments are also frequent hurdles. Collaborating closely with cross-disciplinary teams, such as robotics engineers and production managers, is essential to address these challenges effectively and deliver robust solutions.

What is the difference between Machine Vision vs Computer Vision?

Machine Vision and Computer Vision are related fields but differ mainly in application and environment. Machine Vision is primarily used in industrial settings for automation and quality control, requiring specialized hardware and engineering skills. Computer Vision is broader, often involving AI and software development for applications like autonomous vehicles and image analysis. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or job focus within the tech industry.

This individual will partner closely with Linque product leadership, sales teams, software and engineering stakeholders, and the broader Proconex marketing organization to develop customer-centric campaigns, launch new products and features, and strengthen Linque's position in the industrial automation and AI inspection market.

Key Job Responsibilities

Product Marketing & Go-to-Market

  • Own product positioning, messaging, and value propositions for Linque solutions, including the Mobius platform and VisionAI technologies.
  • Develop customer personas, buyer journey frameworks, competitive intelligence, and market segmentation strategies.
  • Lead go-to-market planning and execution for new product launches, feature releases, and expansion into new use cases and industries.
  • Translate complex technical capabilities into customer-focused benefits and business value narratives.

Demand Generation & Pipeline Growth

  • Plan and execute multi-channel demand generation campaigns across email, digital advertising, SEO, webinars, content marketing, and account-based marketing programs.
  • Develop and optimize nurture programs that progress prospects through the funnel from marketing-qualified leads (MQLs) to sales-qualified leads (SQLs).
  • Monitor campaign performance and recommend improvements based on pipeline contribution, conversion metrics, customer engagement, and ROI analysis.
  • Partner with digital marketing stakeholders to improve website performance, lead generation, and conversion rates.

Sales Enablement & Content Development

  • Develop and maintain sales enablement materials including presentations, datasheets, solution briefs, competitive battlecards, proposal templates, and demo content.
  • Create customer-facing content including case studies, white papers, application notes, blogs, webinars, and customer success stories.
  • Enable sales teams through training, messaging alignment, competitive insights, and product launch communications.

Market Intelligence & Customer Insights

  • Analyze customer feedback, market trends, industry developments, and competitive activity within industrial automation, machine vision, AI, and related markets.
  • Conduct win/loss analysis and voice-of-customer research to identify opportunities for product and marketing improvements.
  • Support pricing, packaging, positioning, and market expansion strategies through data-driven insights.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Events

  • Partner with product, engineering, sales, and marketing stakeholders to ensure alignment on strategic priorities and customer needs.
  • Support trade shows, customer events, webinars, and industry conferences by developing messaging, content, campaigns, and demonstration materials.
  • Coordinate with agencies, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of marketing initiatives.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in product marketing, technical marketing, demand generation, or B2B marketing.
  • 2+ years of experience developing product positioning, messaging frameworks, and go-to-market strategies.
  • 2+ years of experience launching or marketing technical products or solutions.
  • 2+ years of experience planning and executing multi-channel marketing campaigns.
  • 2+ years of experience using marketing performance metrics and analytics to drive optimization and business outcomes.
  • 2+ years of experience creating sales enablement content and customer-facing marketing materials.
  • 2+ years of experience working cross-functionally with product, sales, and technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in product marketing within industrial automation, manufacturing technology, machine vision, AI, SaaS, or related technical industries.
  • 3+ years of experience owning pipeline generation metrics and marketing contribution to revenue.
  • Experience using HubSpot, Salesforce, Pardot, or similar marketing automation and CRM platforms.
  • Experience launching technical products and translating complex technologies into customer-centric messaging.
  • Experience supporting account-based marketing (ABM) programs.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and presentation development tools.
  • Experience using marketing attribution, reporting, and analytics tools to measure campaign effectiveness.
