Industrial Vision Controls Engineer

Location: Lawrenceville, GA

Job Type: Direct-Hire, Full-Time

Schedule: First Shift

Travel: Up to 25%

Compensation: $110k-$130k Base Salary

Company Overview

We are partnering with a growing automation-focused engineering company seeking an experienced Industrial Vision Controls Engineer to support advanced motion control and industrial automation projects. This role will support highly automated equipment involving servo systems, machine vision integration, motion control, PLC programming, and electrical system design within a fast-paced engineering environment.

Position Overview

This role is ideal for a hands-on Controls Engineer who enjoys owning projects from concept through commissioning. The engineer will support design, programming, integration, startup, troubleshooting, and optimization of advanced industrial automation systems used in manufacturing and material handling environments.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience programming PLCs from scratch, integrating vision systems, supporting servo/motion applications, and commissioning automated machinery. This is a smaller engineering environment, so the role requires someone comfortable wearing multiple hats across controls engineering and system integration activities.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and support industrial motion control and automation systems
  • Program PLCs from scratch using Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and/or Mitsubishi platforms
  • Configure and troubleshoot servo drives, VFDs, motion controllers, encoders, and multi-axis systems
  • Integrate machine vision systems, robotics, sensors, and industrial communication networks
  • Perform machine commissioning, startup, tuning, test/debug, and troubleshooting activities
  • Support electrical design activities including schematics, control drawings, and CAD documentation
  • Optimize machine performance, reliability, throughput, and cycle times
  • Troubleshoot automation systems and support field service or customer startup activities as needed
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and field teams on new equipment development and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support industrial networking and communication protocols including EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, Modbus, and Profinet
  • Ensure systems comply with electrical and machine safety standards
Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related technical field required
  • 5+ years of Controls Engineering or Industrial Automation experience preferred
  • Strong PLC programming experience required (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and/or Mitsubishi)
  • Experience programming from scratch and supporting full machine integration projects
  • Strong background with servo systems, motion control, drives, and multi-axis automation
  • Experience integrating machine vision systems within automated equipment
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols preferred
  • Electrical design and CAD software experience required
  • Hands-on commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and debug experience required
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to travel up to 25% as needed
