Machine tool operators are skilled workers who set up, operate, and monitor machines used to manufacture metal parts, tools, and instruments. They work with equipment such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to shape and finish metal components according to precise specifications. Their responsibilities include reading blueprints, adjusting machine settings, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring quality control throughout the manufacturing process. Machine tool operators are essential in industries such as automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing, where precision and efficiency are critical.

What are some common challenges faced by machine tool operators, and how can they be addressed?

Machine Tool Operators often encounter challenges such as maintaining precision under tight deadlines, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, and adapting to new technologies. To address these, operators benefit from continuous training, proactive equipment maintenance, and clear communication with engineering and maintenance teams. Embracing process improvements and seeking support from experienced colleagues can also help ensure safety, efficiency, and high-quality output in daily operations.

The Spindle Repair Sales Manager will work closely with Regional Sales Managers, distributors, Field Service Engineers, service personnel, and customers to identify repair opportunities and provide solutions that minimize customer downtime and extend the useful life of machine tool spindles. The position will serve as a key commercial resource for DN Solutions' spindle repair capabilities and will be responsible for building a sustainable sales pipeline and expanding the company's presence in the spindle repair market.

Job Responsibilities

  • Own and drive revenue growth for the spindle repair business by developing new customers and expanding business with existing DN Solutions accounts.

    • Regional Sales Managers and distributor relationships.
    • Field Service Engineers and service organizations.
    • Customer maintenance and manufacturing personnel.
    • Machine installations, service calls, and machine downtime events.
    • Competitive and non-DN Solutions machine tool accounts where appropriate.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with customers, distributors, dealers, and internal sales teams.
  • Work with customers to understand spindle failures, repair requirements, downtime concerns, and replacement-versus-repair decisions.
  • Coordinate with technical and repair personnel to determine the appropriate repair scope and develop accurate, competitive quotations.
  • Lead the commercial process from opportunity identification through quotation, negotiation, order placement, and customer follow-up.
  • Follow up consistently on open quotations and opportunities to maximize conversion and minimize lost business.
  • Develop business strategies to increase spindle repair sales within targeted geographic markets, customer segments, and industries.
  • Identify opportunities to bundle spindle repair services with machine service, preventive maintenance, field service, and other aftermarket offerings.
  • Monitor sales activity, pipeline, bookings, revenue, margins, and other key performance indicators.
  • Provide regular sales forecasts and business updates to management.
  • Develop strategies to win business from competitors and independent spindle repair providers.
  • Support Regional Sales Managers, distributors, and service personnel during customer visits and sales opportunities.
  • Conduct customer presentations and explain the value proposition of DN Solutions spindle repair services, including quality, turnaround time, technical expertise, warranty, and customer support.

  • Gather customer and market feedback to identify opportunities to improve spindle repair services, pricing, turnaround times, and overall customer experience.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of spindle technology, common failure modes, repair processes, machine tool applications, and the competitive spindle repair market.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Service, Engineering, Parts, and other departments to ensure customer expectations are aligned with repair capabilities and delivery requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in sales, business development, aftermarket/service sales, machine tools, industrial equipment, manufacturing, or a related industry.
  • Demonstrated track record of achieving sales or revenue targets.
  • Experience selling technical services, repairs, aftermarket products, or industrial equipment is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of machine tool spindles, spindle repair, machine tool service, or CNC machining is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with machine tool dealers, distributors, manufacturers, or industrial customers is highly desirable.
  • Ability to understand technical problems and translate them into commercially viable solutions.
  • Strong negotiation, presentation, communication, and customer relationship management skills.
  • Strong CRM, pipeline management, forecasting, and sales reporting skills.
  • Ability to travel approximately 50%, including customer visits, trade shows, dealer meetings, and other business development activities.

Company Benefits

  • Proactive business development mindset with the ability to identify opportunities rather than simply respond to inbound requests.
  • Consultative sales approach focused on understanding customer problems and providing solutions.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to understand revenue, margins, pricing, and profitability.
  • Highly persistent and comfortable with prospecting, cold outreach, follow-up, and developing new customer relationships.
  • Strong relationship builder who can work effectively with customers, dealers, distributors, service personnel, and internal leadership.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable operating independently while coordinating across multiple departments.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts and repair solutions to both shop-floor personnel and executive-level decision makers.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple opportunities, quotations, customers, and priorities simultaneously.
