Job description

Are you a Tool and Die Maker, looking to bring your experience to a company that offers a fast-paced work environment, a collaborative culture and incredible benefits? We have a 2nd shift role, working 2:15 PM to 10:45 PM, in our Downers Grove, IL, Facility.

Hourly rate: Starting at $34.00/hr, with potential to make much more, depending on experience 

Responsibilities:

  • Work from prints, specifications, work orders and instructions:
  • Construct, alter, and repair progressive, blanking and forming dies, cold forging dies, fixtures, and gauges.
  • Visualize finished job, make necessary adjustments.
  • Recognize and report for correction blueprint errors which would interfere with production procedures.
  • Perform machine tool operations including unusual and difficult set ups and machine material to very close tolerances and fits.
  • Perform highly skilled bench work, fitting, assembling, and adjusting to ensure satisfactory operation.
  • Check work using all types of precision measuring instruments, fixed gauges, and other similar devices.
  • Make tool try outs, diagnose, and correct tooling problems, detect faulty operation or identify defective materials.
  • Move material and work pieces using material handling equipment.
  • Instruct others on details of work as required by assignment.
  • Follow all written quality and other procedures.
  • Work closely with design engineer.
  • Use a variety of machine and precision inspection tools and hand tools.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience.

Competency Requirements:

  • Highly diversified work.
  • Perform duties to plan, construct, alter, and repair a wide variety of dies and tools.
  • Exercise considerable judgment to perform necessary calculations to make allowances for metal flow, spring back, fit and finish.
  • The ability to operate Mills, Grinders, Lathe, and other Tool Room equipment

Education Requirements:

  • Use advanced trade mathematics together with visualizing and the use of blueprints and use all varieties of precision measuring instruments.
  • Knowledge of machine shop practices, machine tool operations and material characteristics.
  • Equivalent to a completed accredited tool and die apprenticeship.

Physical Requirements:

  • Light physical effort required to handle materials and operate equipment, which is equivalent to frequently lifting or moving lightweight material or, occasionally, average weights.
  • Concentrated mental and visual attention required to lay out and machine work, to very close limits of high accuracy and quality.
  • Exposure to oil, chips and noise, but with none present to the extent of being disagreeable.
