The Tool Design Engineer is responsible for supporting the business needs from a Tool Design standpoint. This will include actioning tool design related requests, developing training documents and supporting tool testing and installation. They will also work closely with the management team to improve efficiency and processes to further the Manufacturing Department's productivity and capabilities through Relentless Continuous Improvement (RCI). The Tool Designer will also closely work with the Customer Care, Projects, and Machines teams to troubleshoot and diagnose tooling performance issues.

As our Tool Design Engineer- you will report to the Tool Design Manager.

On a given day, you may:

  • Work with the Tooling Manager to ensure design needs are being met. Updates will need to be made through the Planning Board and this will be inclusive of all tooling related orders
  • Work with the Design Team to ensure that the standard principles and designs are being followed and adhered to
  • Work with the Tooling, Machines, and Customer Care teams to troubleshoot and problem solve Tooling related issues
  • Work with the Sales Team to support tool design and specification related queries. This can include but is not limited to providing input and guidance on tray design related queries and tooling capacity related queries
  • Work with the Manufacturing Leadership Team to promote and maintain interpersonal relationships within the department
  • Communicate all design issues with both the Tooling Manager and the UK Design Team. This will involve troubleshooting and working on providing solutions to problems that may arise
  • Communicate design updates and developments with the business through formal communication as and when needed
  • Design and issue trial plates for tooling and trial related orders. This will see the Tool Designer model trial plates for new tooling orders, make necessary modifications to existing trial plates to correct fitment issues and to also model trays related to the order. These can be at the request of the Tooling Manager, Packaging Quality Engineer, or other departments in the business
  • Design and issue film plans for tooling related orders. The film plans must be issued in line with the specification sheet as requested and must also follow the standard design principles. This will include completing any necessary administrative work associated with these orders
  • Design and issue exploded tool drawings for all standard tooling. This will include completing any necessary administrative work associated with these orders.
  • Design and issue tooling modification parts as and when needed. The scope of work will initially be small, however once the Design Team have delivered the necessary training it is expected that the responsibilities will increase
  • ProNet save manufactured items for spares related orders as and when required.
  • Ensure that all models and drawings you issue are complete and uploaded to the vault following standard procedure. This will also include linking the relevant details in the tooling specification sheet
  • Support on-site tool installations and visits as and when required. This will include troubleshooting tooling issues in a customer facing environment while working in conjunction with the Design Team to correct any issues at hand
  • Visit Proseal UK to receive formal Tool Design training
  • Complete Solidworks training courses as requested to further your knowledge of the software
  • Support the needs of the business by creating training documentation related to the responsibilities of the Tool Designer. This will see the Tool Designer working with the Design Team and can include but is not limited to Solidworks tutorials, Film Plan tutorials and Exploded Tool Drawing tutorials.
  • Ensure that company safety standards are being adhered to daily. This will include monitoring and reporting any and all near misses and enforcing company health and safety procedures.
  • Enforce all company policies via the handbook including but not limited to monitoring performance and attendance.

Requirements for the role

  • High School Diploma required Technical or Vocational School graduation with a manufacturing focus is preferred
  • Work experience in related studies may be substituted
  • 3+ years related work experience
  • Tray sealing product knowledge is preferred
  • Experience using CAD software (Solidworks/DraftSight 2D) as well as the Windows Office Suite
  • Proficient ability to read and interpret blueprint/technical drawings
  • Proficient in the use of measuring devices such as digital calipers, radii gauge and angle gauges
  • High level of mechanical/technical and troubleshooting expertise
  • Ability to deal with high pressure environments and situations
  • Time management, organization, and the ability to work to deadlines
  • Work in a climate-controlled factory
  • Stand continuously for long periods of time
  • Wearing safety clothing and equipment is required
  • Able to kneel, bend, crouch and climb ladders to access various parts of a machine
  • Able to lift-up to 60Ibs
  • You must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship now or in the future.
