Job description

The Shop Helper is responsible for performing a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor tasks in the maintenance of the company's office and shop area. This position frequently uses hand tools and power tools and operates light equipment in the course of work. Being reliable and self-motivated with a keen eye for detail is essential in this role.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Report to work each workday on or before the designated check-in time in proper PPE attire.
  • Sweep and power clean shop floors.
  • Empty garbage cans.
  • Clean and restock bathrooms.
  • Put away stock items in the parts room.
  • Operate ride-on sweeper to keep the parking lot clean.
  • Power wash various pieces of equipment once repairs have been made.
  • Detail fleet trucks and equipment cabs.
  • Fuel equipment when needed.
  • Remove snow from walkways using a snow blower, broom, or shovel, and salt walkways as needed.
  • Conduct regular maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs.
  • Drive a company vehicle to pick up parts for mechanics when needed.
  • Complete daily work assignments in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Use various equipment, hand, and power tools in a safe manner.
  • Comply with all safety policies, procedures, and standards of safety.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by supervisors.

Skills and Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred. Any vocational training is strongly desired.
  • Those with an education and/or work-related credential from a secondary or post-secondary educational system will be given preferred interview status (Precision Exams, NOCTE, etc.).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Experience working with tools, including hand and power tools.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Display a willing attitude to learn from others.
  • Possess a strong sense of personal responsibility.
  • Ability to work safely in close proximity to heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to get to and from work.

Physical Requirements:
  • Able and willing to work long hours, including responding to emergency maintenance situations.
  • Able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Able to work in outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, and job hazards.
  • Ability to do physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks.
  • Requires good manual dexterity.
