Job description

Legacy Talent Search is currently seeking candidates for an Engineering Manager – Machine Shop role in Cincinnati, OH. Our client is a well-established industry leader known for innovation, precision manufacturing, and a commitment to delivering the highest-quality products. With a strong focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence, they are seeking an experienced engineering leader to oversee machine shop engineering activities, develop high-performing teams, and drive improvements in quality, productivity, and manufacturing efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

· Lead, mentor, and develop a team of manufacturing engineers, CNC programmers, technicians, and other technical personnel supporting machine shop operations.
· Provide engineering leadership and technical direction for CNC machining, tooling, fixturing, workholding, process development, and production optimization.
· Partner closely with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and Product Engineering to achieve production, quality, cost, and delivery objectives.
· Establish engineering priorities and allocate resources to support daily production requirements, new product introductions, capital projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.
· Drive improvements in machine utilization, throughput, cycle time, scrap, rework, labor efficiency, and overall manufacturing performance.
· Lead the development and optimization of machining processes, CNC programs, tooling strategies, fixtures, and manufacturing methods.
· Oversee troubleshooting and resolution of complex machining, tooling, equipment, and manufacturing process issues.
· Champion Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and other continuous improvement methodologies throughout machine shop operations.
· Review engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T requirements, and manufacturing processes to ensure manufacturability, quality, and cost effectiveness.
· Lead root cause analysis and corrective action efforts related to manufacturing, equipment, and quality issues.
· Support new product introduction (NPI) activities, including manufacturability reviews, process development, equipment requirements, tooling, capacity planning, and production readiness.
· Identify, justify, and manage capital equipment projects involving CNC machines, automation, tooling, inspection equipment, and other manufacturing technologies.
· Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate engineering effectiveness and machine shop performance.
· Establish and maintain manufacturing standards, work instructions, routings, process documentation, and engineering procedures.
· Evaluate emerging machining technologies, automation opportunities, and manufacturing equipment that can improve productivity and competitiveness.
· Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement across the engineering and manufacturing organization.
· Recruit, train, coach, and evaluate engineering team members while supporting professional development and succession planning.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent combination of education and extensive manufacturing experience may be considered.
· 7+ years of progressive manufacturing or engineering experience, preferably within a CNC machining, precision manufacturing, or machine shop environment.
· 3+ years of engineering leadership, supervisory, or management experience preferred.
· Strong technical understanding of CNC machining, machine tools, cutting tools, fixtures, workholding, feeds and speeds, and manufacturing process development.
· Demonstrated ability to lead and develop technical teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
· Strong knowledge of engineering drawings, dimensional tolerancing, and GD&T.
· Proven experience improving manufacturing performance through cycle-time reduction, process optimization, scrap reduction, automation, and continuous improvement.
· Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or similar continuous improvement methodologies.
· Familiarity with CAD/CAM systems, CNC programming, ERP/MRP systems, manufacturing data, and production planning tools.
· Experience with capital equipment selection, justification, implementation, and commissioning is highly desirable.
· Strong analytical, project management, and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
· Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
· Ability to balance strategic engineering initiatives with the day-to-day technical needs of machine shop operations.
