Under the technical direction of one or more members of the faculty or an instructional administrator, prepares laboratories and classrooms for instructors; plans and designs experiments/demonstrations; participates in the delivery of the actual instruction and provides student supervision, assistance and evaluation and/or has been assigned lead responsibilities over classified staff.What You'll Do and Who We Are Looking For

Instruction & Instructional Support

  • Provide instructional support to students through the safe use of machining equipment, tools, materials, and laboratory resources.

  • Set up and support laboratory activities, monitor student progress, and assist with instruction and assessments as assigned.

  • Train and orient students and staff on laboratory procedures, equipment operation, safety protocols, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain laboratory records, inventories, and operational procedures.

  • Procure supplies, equipment, and instructional materials; track expenditures and coordinate with vendors.

Maintenance & Equipment Management

  • Maintain machining laboratories, equipment, and facilities to ensure safe, clean, and effective operations.

  • Troubleshoot equipment issues, coordinate repairs, and manage the checkout and tracking of tools and materials.

  • Handle hazardous materials and maintain required safety documentation in compliance with applicable regulations and maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

Personnel & Leadership

  • Coordinate daily laboratory operations and oversee classified, temporary, and student employees.

  • Schedule, train, and support staff in laboratory preparation, equipment maintenance, and safety.

Minimum Qualifications: To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • High school diploma or equivalent and two years of post-secondary education in a specific technical discipline appropriate to the instructional support.

  • Three years of experience in the technical area are required; relevant experience may substitute for the post-secondary education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

  • Must have proven written and oral communications skills adequate to assist students in understanding the work they are to perform.

  • Proven ability to lead others and evaluate performance.

  • The ability to lift 50 lbs in this work environment is required.

  • Depending on laboratory assignment, some positions may also require specialized knowledge and program-specific certifications.

Success Criteria: These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position.Throughout the screening process, you will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these qualifications.

  • Demonstrates the ability to provide general assistance to students, faculty and staff to ensure orientation to safety protocols and proper use of the laboratory and personal protective equipment.
  • Demonstrates the ability to support activities in the machine shop; establishes procedures for the use of equipment, inventory, supplies, materials, and machinery.

  • Demonstrate the ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair a wide variety of industrial equipment

  • Experience creating purchase orders, making purchase on purchase card, tracking expenditures, and ensuring budget compliance

  • Demonstrates a willingness and ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students and vendors to best meet the needs of the fast paced, high stress, physically demanding, hazardous environment with a wide-range of learners.

  • Demonstrates computer competency skills, including but not limited to email, and Google Suite.

How We Determine Initial Salary Placement

Initial Salary Placement will be between Step 1 ($57,917) and Step 2 ($59,654) based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement. Placement at a higher step may be possible based upon additional experience and internal equity.
