Project Manager, Aftermarket

Description
The Project Manager, Aftermarket is responsible for the successful execution of aftermarket orders from order entry through project closeout. This role serves as the primary customer interface and internal project leader for aftermarket compressor projects, including airend replacements and overhauls, control panel retrofits, full unit refurbishments, package upgrades, and key parts orders.
Key Responsibilities
Project Execution
  • Manage aftermarket projects from order receipt through shipment, installation support, invoicing, and closeout.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, critical milestones, and action item registers.
  • Lead internal project kickoff meetings and customer progress meetings.
  • Coordinate cross-functional project activities to ensure timely execution of project deliverables.
  • Proactively identify project risks, develop mitigation plans, and escalate issues as needed.
  • Monitor project scope and support change order management activities.
  • Target process bottlenecks or inefficiencies for review to continuously improve efficiency of aftermarket project execution.

Customer Management
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers throughout project execution.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships through proactive communication and issue resolution.
  • Provide regular status updates regarding schedule, documentation, manufacturing progress, inspections, and shipment activities.
  • Coordinate customer witness testing, inspections, and acceptance activities as required.

Aftermarket Order Management
  • Manage complex aftermarket orders including:
    • Airend replacements
    • Airend overhauls and repair programs
    • Control panel modernization and retrofit projects
    • Full unit overhauls and refurbishments
    • Compressor package upgrades and modifications
    • Key spare parts orders (i.e. special testing or key accounts orders)
  • Support rapid-response customer requirements associated with plant outages and operational emergencies.
  • Coordinate field service and aftermarket support activities where required.

Financial and Commercial Management
  • Monitor project performance against budget, margin, and schedule objectives.
  • Track project costs and support margin improvement initiatives.
  • Review customer purchase orders and contractual requirements.
  • Assist in identifying commercial risks, scope changes, and recovery opportunities.
  • Support timely invoicing and cash collection objectives.

Internal Coordination
  • Ensure project stakeholders clearly understand priorities, responsibilities, and required deliverables.
  • Facilitate resolution of technical, scheduling, procurement, and production issues.

Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve aftermarket project execution processes.
  • Contribute to development of project management tools, templates, and best practices.
  • Support initiatives to improve on-time delivery, customer satisfaction, and profitability.
  • Participate in lessons learned reviews and continuous improvement activities.

Skills Knowledge and Experience
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Project Management, Operations Management, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience will be considered.

Experience
  • 5+ years of project management, operations, engineering, service, or aftermarket experience in an industrial equipment manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience managing engineered equipment, rotating machinery, compressors, aftermarket service projects, or industrial retrofit projects strongly preferred.
  • Experience working directly with customers and cross-functional teams.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
