Job description

Seeking a hands-on Machine Shop Manager to establish, lead, and grow an in-house CNC machining operation. This role will begin as the primary CNC programmer/operator and evolve into leading shop expansion, process development, equipment planning, and team management.

Responsibilities

  • Program, set up, and operate CNC milling and turning equipment.
  • Read engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T specifications.
  • Develop and optimize CNC programs using CAM software.
  • Perform quality inspections and ensure production standards are met.
  • Improve machining processes, reduce costs, and increase efficiency.
  • Help transition outsourced machining work to in-house production.
  • Manage tooling, materials, equipment, and shop organization.
  • Recruit, train, and lead machinists as the department grows.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of CNC machining, programming, and setup experience.
  • Strong CAM, G-Code, and CAD (SolidWorks preferred) skills.
  • Expertise in machining processes, tooling, fixturing, and quality control.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.

Preferred

  • Experience building or scaling a machine shop.
  • Leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement background.
  • ERP/MRP and production scheduling experience.
