About the Role:
Stony MFG is looking for an experienced and driven Machine Shop Manager to lead our manufacturing operations in Elma, NY. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of a dynamic shop floor environment, guiding a skilled team while ensuring precision, efficiency, and quality at every stage of production.
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee daily machine shop operations, including scheduling, workflow management, and production planning
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop machinists and shop floor personnel to maximize team performance
  • Ensure all machining processes meet quality standards, tolerances, and customer specifications
  • Monitor and maintain CNC machines, manual lathes, mills, and other shop equipment
  • Coordinate with engineering, purchasing, and leadership teams to meet production deadlines
  • Enforce safety protocols and maintain a clean, compliant, and organized shop environment
  • Manage tooling inventory, raw materials, and equipment maintenance schedules
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience in a machine shop environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role
  • Proficiency with CNC programming, setup, and operation (Fanuc, Mazak, or similar controls preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of machining processes including turning, milling, drilling, and grinding
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications
  • Experience with quality control processes and inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, CMM)
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse shop team
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset
