On-Road Shop Leadman


Purpose

This role will be responsible for supervising the maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of Material Transfer Company trucks and trailers. The position leads shop personnel, coordinates repair schedules, and ensures all equipment is maintained safely, eciently, and in compliance with company and DOT standards. The Material Transfer Shop Leadman will report directly to the Material Transfer Operations Manager.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate daily activities of shop mechanics and technicians.
  • Assign tasks, work orders, and prioritize repair schedules based on operational and production needs.
  • Monitor workflow, productivity, and work quality to ensure timely completion of maintenance and repairs.
  • Train, mentor, and support employees in troubleshooting, maintenance procedures, repair techniques, and safety practices.
  • Provide hands-on leadership and promote a positive, team-oriented work environment.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and related issues on the Material Transfer fleet and associated support equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and ensure fleet reliability while minimizing downtime.
  • Oversee repairs involving diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, conveyors, and related components.
  • Verify completed work meets manufacturer and company standards.
  • Assist with major repairs, field repairs, emergency breakdown response, and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Enforce company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Conduct daily safety discussions and ensure safe work practices.
  • Maintain clean and organized shop conditions.
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of oils, fluids, and hazardous materials.
  • Monitor shop inventory, tools, and parts usage.
  • Coordinate with vendors and parts suppliers as needed.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair logs, and work orders.
  • Assist management with tracking equipment downtime and repair costs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; minimum of 5 years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous supervisory or leadman experience required.
  • Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and diagnostics.
  • Experience with class 6 and 8 trucks required.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work unsupervised.
