Job Description:

The department lead person position is accountable for ensuring that production scheduled for completion is executed in a timely manner and within all quality parameters. As department lead you will be responsible for knowing how to operate all machinery, superior knowledge of product and knowledge of all processes related to department. This position places high premiums on effective teamwork, clear communication, documentation, ability to lead a team and maintaining production efficiency.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs all tasks in a safe & responsible manner;
  • Responsible for the monitoring of performance of all employees in the assigned work cells within the Machine Shop department, which will include oversight of employees who perform set-ups, adjustments, and work with CNC or manual mills, lathes, and other machining equipment;
  • Assists supervisor in assigning work, instructing and training new and less-experienced employees on proper procedures, processes, safety practices and housekeeping;
  • Maintains work flow and ensures the availability of proper work instructions, drawing, materials, tools, fixtures, calibrated inspection gauges and equipment. Constantly monitors requirements in all production cells;
  • Sets up and adjusts equipment for proper operation;
  • Will produce samples (First Piece) for inspection, make adjustments to obtain required dimensions and quality;
  • Prepares and presents reports on group actives;
  • Will provide technical assistance and training as needed;
  • Recommends product, tooling, and other departmental improvements;
  • Recommends traveler changes and performs troubleshooting;
  • Ability to react to changes productively and perform other essential tasks as assigned;
  • Assists supervisor in obtaining certification of equipment, manpower and identification and records of all tooling;
  • Advises supervisor of any difficulties;
  • Working consistently, working overtime and traveling as required;
  • Conducts themselves in a business-like and civil manner;
  • Keeps quality up to acceptable standards with little discrepant work;
  • Performs tasks equal to or exceeding established standards;
  • Accomplishes production quotas

Skills and Requirements:

  • Due to need to maintain ITAR compliance, applicants must be U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  • Proficient knowledge of all Machine Shop and Cell operations;
  • Ability to motivate and direct subordinates;
  • Effective time management skills;
  • Availability, flexibility and maturity to represent the company;
  • Manual dexterity to efficiently performs set-ups, make adjustments, operate CNC, Manual Mills and Lathes and use other hand tools and inspection equipment
  • Ability to read, write, follow written and verbal instructions in English;
  • Ability to work well with only a modest amount of repeated instructions;
  • Be team oriented and possess flexibility and adaptability
