Repair and maintain mechanical equipment and machinery in accordance with drawings, operational manuals, and manufacturer's specifications, using hand and power tools and testing equipment.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Maintenance Mechanic at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
  • Observes all mechanical equipment in operation.
  • Dismantles inoperative equipment, removes, repairs or replaces defective parts.
  • Adjusts functional parts of equipment and instrumentation.
  • Lubricates and cleans mechanical parts.
  • Starts mechanical equipment and tests their performance.
  • Utilizes electrical and mechanical tools, hand tools, ladders, scaffolds, lifts, gauges, meters, etc. to perform required work.
  • Mechanics working on off shifts will handle all emergencies related to Plant Operations.
  • Mechanics are required to work any day or shift as needed.
  • Performs other duties of Plant Operations as required.
  • May use machine shop equipment to repair required mechanical parts.
  • Reads blue prints or specifications in the performance of mechanic tasks.

Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), GED equivalent programs, and/or other Vocational degrees/certificates.
  • 3-5 years in related work.
  • Stands, walks, reaches most of the day and handles light and medium weight tools, objects and equipment, frequently moves equipment up to 80 lbs., works on ladders and scaffolds.
  • Changing conditions depending on job; dirt, dust, fumes, grease water, steam, refrigerants, and various Plant Operational compounds.
  • Indoor and outdoor work.
