Job description

Working Shop ManagerA to Z Quality Fencing is hiring a dependable, hands-on Working Shop Manager for our Hartford, Wisconsin location. This is a working leadership role for someone who can keep a shop organized, operate equipment safely, prepare materials for crews, manage inventory, and lead a shop assistant throughout the day. We are looking for a practical, mechanically inclined person who takes pride in keeping things clean, organized, and ready to go. The right candidate will be comfortable working in a shop environment, moving materials, operating forklifts and shop equipment, supporting light manufacturing, and helping our field crews start each day prepared.

About the RoleThe Working Shop Manager is responsible for keeping daily shop operations running smoothly. This person will help prepare fencing materials, stage orders for upcoming jobs, load and unload trucks, track inventory, and make sure tools, materials, equipment, and vehicles are ready for the field crews. This is not a desk-only management position. The Working Shop Manager will be expected to work hands-on in the shop while also setting the pace, assigning priorities, and helping maintain a clean, safe, and productive work environment. ResponsibilitiesOperate CNC equipment, saws, forklifts, and other shop machinery safely and efficiently.

Load and unload trucks using a forklift.

Pull, organize, and stage materials for upcoming fence installation jobs.

Maintain accurate inventory and help track shop materials.

Support light manufacturing and preparation of fencing materials.

Perform light maintenance on shop equipment and company vehicles.

Lead, direct, and support a shop assistant throughout the workday.

Communicate material, equipment, and scheduling needs to leadership and field crews.

Keep the shop clean, organized, safe, and running efficiently.

Identify material shortages, equipment issues, and workflow problems before they slow crews down.

QualificationsPrevious experience in a shop, manufacturing, warehouse, construction, fencing, or similar hands-on environment is preferred.

Ability to safely operate forklifts and shop equipment.

Strong organization skills and the ability to keep materials and work areas structured.

Mechanical aptitude and basic maintenance knowledge.

Ability to work independently, stay on task, and take ownership of daily shop priorities.

Leadership ability and willingness to direct at least one shop assistant.

Welding experience is a strong plus.

Valid driver's license preferred.

RequirementsMust be able to pass a drug screening.

Must be able to pass a background check.

Must be dependable, punctual, and able to work in person at the Hartford shop. Must be comfortable working around trucks, trailers, forklifts, saws, tools, and shop equipment.

Pay and SchedulePay is $28.00 to $40.00 per hour, depending upon experience. The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 5:30 AM to 2:00PM, with occasional overtime as needed.
