Job description

METAL SHOP APPRENTICE SUMMARY: Full Time

The Metal Shop Apprentice is an entry-level training position designed to develop the skills necessary for a successful career in metal fabrication and welding. Over a four-year apprenticeship program, the apprentice will receive hands-on training in the safe operation of all metal shop machinery, fabrication techniques, and various welding processes. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, the apprentice will gain the knowledge and practical experience required to become a skilled metalworker and welder.

PAY: Hourly Pay, $17.50 Competitive wage progression with annual increases of up to $3.00 per hour based on performance and successful completion of apprenticeship milestones.

METAL SHOP APPRENTICE ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:

  • Follow detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings
  • Utilize Machinery such as a CNC laser, Brake, Turret, Mill, Lathe, Manual saw, Grinders, Welders, and various hand tools.
  • Retrieve and Manufacture components prior to assembly
  • Machine, File, bend, and smooth parts, and verify sizes and fitting tolerances
  • Produces the required quantity of parts within established time, specifications, and tolerances
  • Measures finished parts with tape measure, Calipers, Angle gages and fixtures, ensuring compliance with function, quality, and cosmetic specifications
  • Maintains logs and records of units produced including a record of errors resulting in rejected or discarded pieces
  • Inspects equipment prior to use to ensure proper setup and alignment; performs basic and routine adjustments and maintenance
  • Identifies out-of-tolerance parts
  • Must be able to read blueprints, read a tape measure, both imperial, and metric systems
  • Identifies parts from blueprint and places the appropriate identification label on the parts
  • Grinds the visible edge for cosmetics
  • Reports time and material used on each job daily
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work area
  • Complies with Company policies and procedures

METAL SHOP APPRENTICE REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of on-the-job training may be substituted for educational requirements.

METAL SHOP APPRENTICE ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to follow directions and work well in a team.
  • Ability to interpret and translate engineering designs and documentation.
  • Thorough understanding of or the ability to quickly learn production equipment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of and the ability to abide by applicable OSHA and environmental regulations.
  • Good communication skills relative to supervisor and other related departments must read and write in English to fill out daily reports.

  • Prolonged periods working on feet, using tools, and performing repetitive actions.
  • Required regularly to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.

  • Must be able to lift, push, pull a minimum of 75lbs and maximum of 100lbs.
  • Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced.
