Amazon Industrial Robotics is seeking exceptional talent to help develop the next generation of advanced robotics systems that will transform automation at Amazon's scale. Amazon is seeking a talented and motivated Regulatory Compliance Engineer with experience fielding industrial machinery, with emphasis on industrial robot systems. This position is responsible for new product support related to regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will be a highly organized team player with excellent communication and technical skills, possessing a strong understanding of regulatory compliance schemes and processes required to specify, test, qualify, document, and maintain certifications in Machine Safety (ideally with experience in industrial robot systems), Product Safety, Food Safety, EMC, wireless compliance for domestic and international markets as well as exposure to Functional Safety.
Key job responsibilities
- Determine applicable regulations, standards, and safety requirements for new industrial machinery with emphasis on industrial robot systems
- Ensure Amazon products are safe, compliant, operationally effective, and cost-effective
- Serve as compliance subject matter expert, educating product teams (product/program managers, architects, and engineers) on regulatory requirements to guide compliant design development
- Collaborate with third-party test agencies to test and validate Amazon products, supporting testing from hardware and software perspectives
- Lead certification of Amazon's products, working cross-functionally with Compliance, Engineering, and Operations teams across Amazon
- Partner with Amazon suppliers to communicate regulatory requirements and verify compliance of third-party products
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related fields
- 6+ years of compliance experience fielding industrial robot systems (or equivalent)
- Experience interacting with customers, regulatory agencies, and test laboratories
- Experience supporting contract manufacturers with NRTL factory inspections
- Experience supporting engineering change control processes (Agile)
- Experience evaluating compliance of third-party products
- Experience with food safety
- Knowledge of EMC regulations pertaining to FCC, Industry Canada, EN 61000-6-x, etc.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Certified Machine Safety Expert (CMSE) or equivalent certification
- Experience in risk management and performing task-based risk assessments
- Knowledge of standards, regulations, and EU directives related to machinery safety, functional safety, product safety, and risk assessments (e.g., ISO 10218-2, UL 1740, UL 508, IEC 61508, IEC 62061, ISO 13849-1, NFPA 79, IEC 60204-1, and ISO 12100), GDPR/CCPA/BIPA privacy regulations, FDA Food Code, and FAA regulations
- Proven ability to multitask in a high-energy environment
- Experience evaluating products employing Electro Sensitive Protective Equipment (ESPE), Safety Related Sensors (SRS), and Safety Related Sensor Systems (SRSS) (e.g., IEC 61496 series)
- Experience documenting product requirements extracted from industry Safety, EMC, and Wireless standards
- Experience supporting Safety, EMC, and Wireless certification programs by identifying equipment needs, documentation requirements, support equipment needs, staging and supporting equipment to be tested, and providing debug capabilities
- Experience with standards development organizations (e.g., ISO, IEC, RIA, ANSI, UL, etc.)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
