Your Day-to-Day as a Control Room Operator?

Using HMI tools, you will monitor all incoming fiber, manage the drying processes and production of pellets and finally the movement of pellets into railcars. You must also monitor and communicate any safety-related concerns directly to plant employees or the Plant Leadership team.

As part of your duties, you will: 
  • Uphold Drax’s housekeeping standards by involving all team members. Utilize Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure training for employees. Complete safety training for the Plant Operator Development Program as needed. Use company radios for clear communication, and engage in the Drax Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Committee. Support compliance with safety, production, quality, and operational policies throughout the pellet manufacturing process. Stay composed during emergencies and troubleshoot issues for plant employees.
  • Provide training and mentorship to peers and Operators in the Plant Operator Development Program.
  • Take a leadership role in training for mobile equipment, confined spaces, and hazard identification.
  • Assist in incident investigations as required.
  • Coordinate holiday planning for continuous coverage of essential plant positions.
  • Liaise with Drax management, including HR, Safety, and Senior Executives.
  • Lead plant employees in the safe operation of pellet-making equipment by monitoring moisture, pellet temperatures, and other production factors. Operations start with the scale, tippers, and in-feed pads for raw fiber delivery.
  • Adjust in-feed mixes and direct Loader Operators based on fiber type and moisture.
  • Continuously monitor and analyze the Human-Machine Interface (HMI) system.
  • Review shift notes with the cross-shift Operator and communicate fiber mixes, equipment efficiencies, and any issues.
  • Coordinate with the Loader Operator and Production Team Leads to ensure adequate fiber supply.
  • Communicate housekeeping needs to maintain cleanliness and reduce dust accumulation.
  • Conduct moisture testing and report findings.
  • Instruct employees on which mix to receive and when to load rail cars.

  • Able to operate mobile equipment safely and efficiently
  • Can complete forms and basic checklists associated with cleanup and rail car loading
  • Adaptable to changes in work schedules or work tasks
  • Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in heavy industry operations is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written skills
  • Good mechanical aptitude
  • Valid Driver’s license
