OVERVIEW:
The Assembly Journeyman II is responsible for the safe and efficient assembly, installation, and testing of large pump and mechanical assemblies. This role requires advanced knowledge of assembly practices, machine shop tools, measuring instruments, and problem-solving. The position plays a vital role in promoting safety, maintaining equipment, supporting production targets, and traveling to customer sites as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Always promotes safety as a top priority.
  • Adheres to all company rules, policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with environmental, safety, and health regulations.
  • Monitors, maintains, and ensures proper condition of shop tools and equipment.
  • Meets productivity and efficiency requirements.
  • Uses and interprets machine shop measuring instruments.
  • Reads and interprets engineering drawings.
  • Prepares and cleans parts using solvents and cleaners.
  • Safely rigs and lifts large components, including castings and assemblies exceeding 40,000 lbs.
  • Installs large bearings and adjusts clearance/endplay as needed.
  • Assembles pumps, bearing assemblies, and auxiliary equipment (assemblies up to 400,000 lbs.).
  • Measures and sets suction clearances for optimal pump efficiency.
  • Uses torque tools with capacities up to 35,000 ft. lbs.
  • Sets up, measures, and aligns pump trains up to 60 feet in length.
  • Performs hydrostatic tests on slurry pumps with large diameter openings (up to 1000 psi).
  • Conducts metal fabrication work, including welding and torch cutting.
  • Maintains organized records and documentation.
  • Works independently and demonstrates good computer skills.
  • Applies knowledge of relevant millwright skills.
  • Travels to customer sites domestically and internationally to perform assembly and related work.
  • Trains and mentors' other employees as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Experience: Demonstrated experience in heavy assembly, use of machine shop tools, reading engineering drawings, metal fabrication, and working in an industrial environment. Previous experience with pump assembly, rigging large loads, and international travel preferred.
