Job description

This position helps make gospel teachings, resources, or services accessible to all in a simple and affordable way, supporting the mission of the Church. This position will assist the 1st Pressman in maintaining and operating the press, producing high quality printed products and keeping waste at a minimum in a high stress environment with tight production deadlines while working rotating shifts. Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM (4/10 schedule)

  • 2-4 years of experience on a large format web press.
  • Excellent English communication skills, being able to speak, read, write and comprehend English.
  • This position must also exhibit strong leadership skills and be able to train other 2nd and 3rd press operators.
  • Solid working knowledge of Press Chemistry to understand the relationships between inks, solvents, and paper.
  • Certified Forklift and Roll Clamp Driver.
  • Good interpersonal skills being able to provide instruction to all press workers and consult and advise management and customers regarding press functionality.
  • GATF/PIA printing industry certification or equivalent required or willingness to achieve it within 1 year.
  • Must have experience running, maintaining, and troubleshooting a sheeter and folder with knowledge of double parallel and quarter folds.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts and to perform auto-transfer changeovers of plates while press is running.
  • Must be able to stand on feet for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to climb stairs while carrying oversized objects, bend, squat, and work in confined spaces for the majority of shift.
  • Must have a strong mechanical aptitude to operate, troubleshoot, and make adjustments and repairs to press equipment.
  • This position also performs regular preventative maintenance on the presses.
  • Ability to work around inks, solvents, and other chemicals associated with the printing process. A strong sense of work safety and ability to follow safety and OSHA procedures.
  • Above average level of proficiency in problem solving, math skills, verbal ability, and mechanical comprehension are required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and other computer programs.

80% 2nd Press Operator will follow the instructions of the 1st press operator. Load paper rolls, maintain ink fountains, record material usage, and maintain and keep the pressroom and related equipment clean, along with other duties as assigned by supervisor. 10% ensures safety and production goals are met. 10% will check printed material while running, and collaborate with 1st pressman, customers, and quality control to ensure quality specifications are met. Schedule is subject to change to fit the needs of the Printing Division. Successful candidate must be able to work assigned schedule and overtime as needed to meet production and to cover other shifts.
