Job description

Pipe Layer – Site Development

Location: Wasatch County, Utah Employment Type: Full-Time

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Pipe Layer to join our site development team. This position will be a part of the crew responsible for the installation of underground utility systems, including sewer, storm drain, and water infrastructure. The Pipe Layer serves as the lead installer in the trench and works closely with operators, laborers, and foremen to ensure utility systems are installed safely, accurately.

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of underground utility construction, can interpret grades and elevations, and takes pride in producing high-quality work. This individual should be knowledgeable in utility installation methods, fittings, materials, and industry standards, with experience installing a variety of pipe systems including HDPE, PVC, etc.

Responsibilities

· Work with foreman to install sewer, storm drain, and water utility systems according to plans, specifications, and grade requirements

· Contribute to reading and interpreting construction drawings, utility profiles, and cut sheets

· Verify line and grade using lasers, grade rods, levels, and other survey equipment

· Be heavily involved in trenching and utility installation activities

· Install and assemble pipe, fittings, valves, hydrants, manholes, catch basins, and utility structures

· Ensure proper pipe alignment, bedding, joint connections, and compaction requirements are met

· Understand and utilize various fitting types, including mechanical joint (MJ), restrained joint, flange, and other utility system connections

· Assist with pressure testing, leak testing, mandrel testing, and utility inspections as required

· Maintain trench safety and comply with all excavation and OSHA requirements

· Identify and resolve installation issues in the field while maintaining quality standards

· Coordinate with Foremen and Superintendents to maintain production goals and project schedules

· Train and mentor laborers and less experienced crew members on proper utility installation practices

· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area

What You Need

· 3+ years of underground utility installation experience preferred

· Strong knowledge of sewer, storm drain, and water utility construction

· Experience establishing and maintaining pipe line and grade

· Understanding of trench safety requirements and excavation best practices

· Knowledge of pipe materials including PVC, ductile iron, reinforced concrete pipe (RCP), and HDPE

· Familiarity with utility fittings, valves, hydrants, and appurtenances

· Ability to work effectively around heavy equipment and communicate clearly with operators

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

· Ability to perform physically demanding work in outdoor conditions

· Reliable transportation and consistent attendance

Preferred Qualifications

· Extensive experience installing HDPE pipe systems, including fusion processes and installation requirements

· OSHA certification or equivalent safety training

· Experience with utility testing, inspections, and as-built documentation

· CDL or equipment operating experience is a plus
