Ground Operations Specialist Summary:
The Ground Operations Specialist, also known as a Groundman, plays a vital role in supporting tree care and removal operations. This position works closely with the tree crew to perform essential ground-level tasks that contribute to the safe and efficient pruning, removal, and maintenance of trees. Key responsibilities include managing tools and equipment, securing ropes, handling debris, and maintaining a clean and safe worksite. The role also involves assisting with daily equipment checks and helping ensure that all safety protocols are followed. Responsibilities:
  • Directs the movement of equipment and personnel in the immediate vicinity of the equipment he/she is spotting for.
  • Warns the equipment operator of approach distances to wires and other objects.
  • Clears brush and other debris from the job site as directed by the crew foreman / operator.
  • Flags all hazards on the job site and a 10' circle around all structures where work is being performed.
  • Meets all visitors with the JSA and brief them on the hazards associated with the present work and makes sure non-essential personnel are not in the work area.
  • Keeps in constant radio contact with equipment operator.
  • Knowledgeable of all approved hand signals.
  • Stays alert at all times to warn the equipment operator and others in the area of dangerous situations.
  • Remains OFF of the cell phone and focused on the tasks at hand.
  • Clears brush and debris from the job site.
  • Operates a chainsaw.
  • Assists others in Basic Machine Maintenance, binding equipment and washing equipment.
  • Makes sure the drop zone is clear of personnel and equipment.
  • Makes sure the drop zone is clear of trees and other debris which could impede the falling of a tree.
  • Serves as a second pair of eyes to the feller/operator noting potential hazardous situations.
  • Will communicate with the feller/operator prior to initiating work.
  • Retrieves additional parts and equipment from the truck, shop, or warehouse.
  • Assist in building gates and fencing as needed.
  • Drives and operates trucks and equipment.
  • Shall follow all company safety guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored.
Qualifications:
  • High School Degree or equivalent.
  • Must be open/available for 80% - 100% travel
  • Ability to work long hours in a high stress environment, including work outside of normal business hours.
  • Follow Basic Machine Maintenance.
  • Oversee and maintain the equipment assigned.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen
