Job description

CNC Turning Operator (CNC Machinist)
Whippany Actuation Systems has an exciting opportunity for an experienced machine operator in our Turning department. In this role you will operate all types of CNC lathes to perform set up and diversified operations to produce parts for electro-mechanical actuation systems. You would be working the day shift, Monday - Friday, 6am - 2:30pm, with overtime available.
In this role, you will typically:
  • Set up and operate CNC machines from complex blueprints, procedure sheets or tool sheets.
  • Review set up procedures and specifications to determine sequence of set up operations and dimensions of finished work.
  • Install fixtures and positions stock in fixtures according to instructions.
  • Assemble cutting tools in tool holders.
  • Change cutting tools and location of fixture as per instructions.
  • Observe operations of machine and verifies accuracy of machine parts against blueprints.
  • Make adjustments as necessary to achieve conformance to design
  • Uses appropriate measuring tools, equipment and measuring techniques to verify first piece acceptance and perform sample inspections during manufacturing run
  • Perform preventative maintenance work on machines, tools and test equipment.
  • Work with Methods Engineers to develop new or improved processes
  • Write simple "G" code
  • Troubleshoot problems that arise with tools, fixtures and programs
  • Compute formulas and set-up calculations

We require:
  • High school/equivalent.
  • 1 year experience setting up and operating related gear cutting machines and/or coursework which includes reading and interpreting blue prints
  • Basic knowledge of GD&T
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.

Eligibility Requirements:
This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. Whippany Actuation Systems will require proof of status before employment.
We would really like to see:
  • Vocational training or certification
  • Ability to read blueprints and use conventional bench measuring equipment
  • Ability to read, understand and follow all manufacturing procedures
  • Knowledge of grinding practices and finish requirements
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Within commuting distance of Whippany or willing to relocate self as relocation assistance is not available

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to transport items to other work centers throughout the facility
  • Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable
  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
  • Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions
  • Requires ability to stand for long periods of time

Benefits and Compensation
The pay rate for this position at commencement of employment is $26.19 per hour. If hired, employee will be an "at-will position."
