Job description

Press Department Assistant

Assist press operators with machine setup, production support, quality checks, bundling, and routine maintenance to ensure efficient press operation and high-quality output. This entry-level position offers training and advancement opportunities within the press department and may require shift changes as employees progress.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with setup and operation of folders, stackers, and sheeters.
  • Bundle folded signatures and stack banded or loose signatures on pallets using hoists when available.
  • Monitor and replenish pallets, banding, and other production supplies.
  • Perform minor machine adjustments and assist with press webbing when needed.
  • Support make-ready activities, including cleaning blankets, changing ink, mounting plates/blankets, and general press cleanup.
  • Perform routine cleaning, housekeeping, lubrication, and maintenance of press equipment.
  • Train for higher-level positions to provide coverage for breaks and absences and support career progression.
  • Identify and support continuous improvement initiatives within the department.
  • Follow all company safety, environmental, and operational procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and math skills required.
  • Ability to learn press support functions, including bundling, roll tending, and make-ready assistance.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Type II Forklift certification.
  • Basic English reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to follow work instructions and safely operate equipment and materials.
