Diner Dish Machine Operator Job Description
Summary:
  • At Black Bear Diners, we have been serving Good Old Fashioned Family Food since 1995. We are a fun, family-friendly concept known for our great homemade food, large portions and genuine, friendly service.
  • The overall responsibility of a Dish Machine Operator is to own the dishwashing process to make sure that all utensils and service ware are cleaned, sanitized and stocked for all other crew members, which results in the restaurant running smoothly and our guests returning.

Knowledge / Technical Expertise:
  • Familiar with and practice all company standards related to position.
  • Load, run and unload dish machine.
  • Keep the dish machine clean and report any functional or mechanical problems immediately.
  • Monitor dish machine water temperature and chemical usage to ensure a sanitary wash cycle.
  • Wash and store all tableware and kitchenware.
  • Keep dish room clean and organized.
  • Maintain adequate levels of clean tableware for dining room and kitchen.
  • Handle tableware carefully to prevent breakage and loss.
  • Assist other employees as needed in cleaning and organizing.
  • Bag and haul dish room trash to dumpster at designed times.
  • Complete side work for station and shift.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the manager-on-duty.
  • Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor.
  • Learn other duties as assigned.

Appearance / Uniform:
  • Comply with all company standards related to appearance and uniform standards. Examples include requirements relating to hair, jewelry, shoes, suspenders, nametags, facial hair, etc. as detailed in the company handbook.

WORK Conditions:
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays in addition to normal business hours/days.

Postural & Physical Demand Requirements:
  • Frequent reaching above waist, chest and shoulder level as well as reaching below waist level.
  • Frequent to continuous need for manual dexterity of both hands (pushing, pulling, handling, gripping, fine finger controls, etc.).
  • Continuous standing on hard surfaces for many tasks.
  • Frequent hip flexion while walking for all tasks.
  • Frequent exposure to cold/ below freezing and high heat temperatures (walk-in refrigerator, freezers, and ovens)
  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
  • Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Bending, squatting, stooping for cleaning activities throughout the shift.
  • Climbing on step stools for cleaning projects as needed.
