The Gorrill Ranch is a diversified fourth generation family farming operation located in the Northern California Sacramento Valley. Our farm produces premium California rice varieties and permanent tree crops including almonds, pecans, and walnuts.

Seasonal Farm Laborer and Harvest Equipment Operator

Seasonal Position Summary


The seasonal farm laborer/harvest equipment operator will engage in crop harvesting using various equipment and mechanical devices. This role demands proficiency in maintaining, repairing, driving, and controlling all forms of farm machinery and equipment used for tilling soil, planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops. In addition, it involves manual labor tasks like pruning, weeding, orchard irrigation repairs, and other duties as assigned by management.



Essential Duties


  • Operate tractors and engage in tillage and harvest activities.
  • Conduct physical labor tasks such as pruning, weeding, shoveling dirt, and repairing irrigation lines/boxes.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of farm machinery operations and functions.
  • Perform equipment cleaning, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Assist with other general labor tasks as needed.
  • Operate tractors and backhoes as necessary to complete tasks.



Non-Essential Responsibilities


  • Other duties as assigned by management.



Qualifications


  • Must possess a valid, current driver's license.
  • Prior work experience in rice and/or nut orchards.
  • Proactive and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong teamwork capabilities.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to maintain equipment.
  • Excellent manual dexterity and facility with small, detailed objects.
  • Class-A driver's license is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of English and Spanish preferred.



Physical Demands


  • Regular standing and climbing up and down steps and ladders.
  • Frequent reaching with hands and arms.
  • Climbing and balancing.
  • Stooping, crawling, and kneeling in tight spaces.
  • Regularly lifting and moving a minimum of 30 lbs.



Conditions


  • Exposure to outdoor conditions including wet, humid, and hot temperatures.
  • Working near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places.
  • Exposure to airborne particles.
