JOB SUMMARY
To improve student achievement by assisting a licensed teacher in the planning and implementation of an educational program, including individualized education programs (IEPs). Assigned educational programs may include both general and special education settings.

To perform instructional activities in support of the prescribed lesson plan and delivered to students within the least restrictive environment (LRE) conducive to student success; to assist in providing a safe, healthy environment for students, including students with complex behavior or medical needs; to assist with student data collection and perform a variety of clerical duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following. ย Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. ย Other related duties may be assigned.
1.ย ย ย ย Assisting in planning and implementation of learning experiences for students; confers with teacher to provide feedback on student performance in tutorial and testing activities.
2.ย ย ย ย Interpreting individualized education programs and related instructional plans, within guidelines set by certificated teacher, and develops specific lesson and tutorial strategies based on knowledge of student aptitude.
3.ย ย ย ย Instructing students in small group and individual settings, often without direct teacher oversight; revises lesson plan or teaching strategy during instructional activity as necessary to achieve IEP goals and objectives.
4.ย ย ย ย Conducting extensive student testing using prescribed test batteries; informs teacher of any unusual academic or disciplinary problems.
5.ย ย ย ย Helping students develop positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults; promotes safety of the students by helping them develop self-confidence.
6.ย ย ย ย Interpreting and implementing a behavior management program; trains and assists students in behavior management; provides education regarding appropriate interpersonal actions; responds to discipline problems; acts as a role model.
7.ย ย ย ย Responding to the community regarding assigned program; develops contacts and resources available to students.
8.ย ย ย ย Attending in-service and workshop training related to area of assignment; applies training to instructional responsibilities.
9.ย ย ย ย Performing a variety of general clerical duties including writing attendance reports, grading papers and maintaining accurate files.
10.ย ย ย ย Assisting students, teachers and/or parents with communication problems.
11.ย ย ย ย Use of district vehicles, as needed by assignment, for student transportation between educational settings and/or within the local community.
12.ย ย ย ย Supporting students during transportation to and from school as a bus rider.
13.ย ย ย ย Implementing medical protocols as required for individual students, including bathroom protocols, feeding protocols, and medication management.
14.ย ย ย ย Use of program or setting-specific software programs for both instruction and maintenance of student and program records.
15.ย ย ย ย Supervising students in a variety of settings, including on the playground, in hallways or on entering or leaving the classroom.
16.ย ย ย ย Maintaining regular and consistent attendance and punctuality. Performing related duties consistent with job description and assignment.
17.ย ย ย ย Annually pass the District's required online training by the District's assigned due-date.ย 
18.ย ย ย ย Attends work regularly and is punctual.
19.ย ย ย ย While working collaboratively with others, implements decisions within ASD established policies and procedures.
20.ย ย ย ย Professionally represent the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students and resolves conflict in a professional manner.ย 
MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Marginal duties of this position include the following. ย Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. ย Other related duties may be assigned.




























1.ย ย ย ย Assists office staff and licensed staff members as necessary including answering telephones, routing telephone calls or messages to appropriate staff and operating general office machinery including photocopy machine, computer and fax machine.
2.ย ย ย ย Performs minor first aid in compliance with District policies and completes required paperwork in a timely fashion.
3.ย ย ย ย Assists on school field trips, as requested.
4.ย ย ย ย Files documents and records according to predetermined classifications, maintaining alphabetical index, and cross references files.
5.ย ย ย ย Attends in-service trainings, as requested/scheduled.ย 
6.ย ย ย ย Attends staff meetings, as requested.

OUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience:ย  Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school or one to two years' related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. ย Must meet current No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requirements. ย Prior successful experience working in a school setting or with children strongly preferred. ย Knowledge of instructional practices related to the assignment and familiarity with IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), or the ability to quickly learn its requirements.
Interpersonal Skills: ย Works effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrates strong conflict-resolution skills, maintains confidentiality, listens respectfully, manages emotions appropriately, and contributes to a positive team environment. Proven ability to work successfully with students, including applying effective student supervision and classroom management techniques in settings serving students with moderate to severe learning, physical, and social/behavioral disabilities.
Student Support Skills: Provides instructional support to students with moderate to severe learning, physical, and social/behavioral disabilities. Works effectively in physically and emotionally demanding environments, including with students who may display aggressive behaviors. Supports students with empathy and assists with basic needs such as feeding and personal hygiene when required. Understands and implements Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), working independently when needed to meet student goals. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles for students with special needs.
Language Skills: ย Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English. ย  ย Ability to effectively present information and respond effectively to questions in one-on-one, small group situations to students and other school staff. ย Ability to verbally respond to common inquiries from students. ย Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and governmental regulations. ย ย 
Mathematical Skills: ย Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. ย Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule or diagram form. ย Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in a variety of situations. ย 
Computer Skills: ย General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use a variety of software, and e-mail. MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and PowerSchool strongly preferred.
Other Skills and Abilities: ย Ability to appropriately communicate with students, licensed staff members, administrators and parents. ย Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with constant interruptions. ย 
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: ย Certificates as determined by the District including meeting current No Child Left Behind certification requirements. ย Ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card.
