Purpose of the Position
Operate heavy equipment to perform tasks such as excavation, grading, demolition, or material handling on job sites. The Equipment Operator ensures the safe and efficient operation of machinery to meet project specifications and deadlines.
Essential Position Responsibilities
- Operate heavy machinery, including excavators, loaders, bulldozers, or backhoes, as required for specific projects.
- Follow all company safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and equipment operation guidelines. Conduct daily pre-operation and post-operation inspections to ensure equipment is in safe working condition.
- Perform site preparation, excavation, grading, or material moving tasks according to project plans and supervisor instructions.
- Maintain assigned equipment, including basic troubleshooting, cleaning, and reporting maintenance needs to the supervisor.
- Operate machinery with precision to ensure accuracy in grading, leveling, or excavation tasks, minimizing errors or rework.
- Work closely with supervisors, field teams, and other operators to coordinate tasks and maintain project timelines.
- Complete and submit equipment logs, inspection reports, and any incident documentation accurately and on time.
- Identify potential hazards on job sites and report them promptly. Ensure equipment operation does not pose risks to personnel or property.
- Operate various types of equipment as needed for different phases of a project. Assist with manual labor tasks when equipment operation is not required.
Physical activities: Sitting for extended periods while operating equipment. Climbing in and out of machinery. Performing tasks requiring bending, lifting, and stooping. Lifting up to 50 pounds regularly, with occasional heavier loads.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, and additional PPE as required by the job site.

Minimum Education: HS Diploma
Preferred Skill Set: Proven experience operating heavy equipment in construction or industrial settings. Strong knowledge of equipment operation, maintenance, and safety procedures. Ability to read and interpret project plans, blueprints, or grading specs. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Certification in equipment operation.
