Position Summary: A Machinist is a trained professional with mechanical aptitude and knowledge within the area of tooling, materials, and set-ups to operate CNC machine tool resources for milling and turning. Machinists are required to work independently and provide on-time delivery of efficient, quality and custom products. Provides support for and routes work to multiple departments by producing low volume finished custom, to stock or repaired parts. Essential goals are to ensure effective production operations and optimize manufacturing procedures.
Essential functions:
  • Interprets blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and set up requirements.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures existing holding fixtures for efficient set ups. Utilizes the appropriate cutting tools, attachments, and materials assigned.
  • Performs the selection, editing, and troubleshooting of CNC programs at the machine control.
  • Sets controls and enters commands for CNC programs to regulate machining factors such as speeds, feeds, and coolant flow.
  • Mentorโ€™s others on general machining tasks using common machining principles.
  • Complete understanding of the use and function of measuring tools or equipment used for inspection. Such as gauges, calipers, dial indicators, and micrometers.
  • Perform part inspections. Capable of identifying the conformance or non-conformance of the finished work piece to specifications and blueprints.
  • Operate forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Maintain good safety and housekeeping practices.
  • Perform minor preventative maintenance and daily cleanup of machines or work areas.
  • No supervisory responsibilities.
Competencies:
  • Proficient with basic computer skills.
  • Proficient with interpreting CNC programs (G and M code, Mazatrol program languages preferred).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and work procedures.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to multitask while minimizing downtime between machine run cycles.
  • Good verbal communication.
  • Good attendance and reliability.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates self-motivation to work independently on assigned tasks.
  • Promotes Teamwork and a willingness to work alongside other departments.
  • Flexible to changes in the work environment; able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
Education or Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 4+ years related experience and training.
  • Vocational training or related educational training is a plus.
Physical Demands:
  • Regularly required to stand.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts
