Job description

Job purpose

This is a salaried position. Works closely with the Manufacturing Engineer, Industrial Engineer, and the Tool Designer to create and/or improve manufacturing processes. The CNC Programmer programs, 2 axis, multi spindle & mill turn (live tooling) lathes using a CAM system and is able to troubleshoot at the control. Must work to project deadlines for time and cost.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Create CNC programs for the shop floor
  • Develop work instructions, tool lists, operation sheets and shop floor inspection methodology.
  • Machine set-up and operation of complex prototype and production parts.
  • Researching automation techniques, testing new systems for efficiency and planning factory layouts to optimize production.
  • Optimize programs to reduce cycle times and improve productivity.
  • In addition, troubleshoot issues with existing programs and make modifications as needed.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience programming CNC machines and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Degree not required. Formal training recommended
  • Experience in CAM programming: 5 years (required) MasterCam a plus
  • Okuma and Fanuc Control knowledge is a plus
  • Multi-Spindle, Multi-Turret lathe experience is preferred
  • 3D modeling of complex parts: 5 years (required) SolidWorks a plus
  • Experience in hands-on CNC machining of complex parts: 5 years (required)
  • Experienced G code programming at the machine control (debug).
  • Excellent blueprint reading skills & thorough understanding of GD&T.
  • Experienced with metrology tools & processes for part inspection.
  • Microsoft Suite โ€“ Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project
  • Good communication skills, math skills and attention to detail.
  • Must have good problem-solving skills
  • Should be familiar with Lean Manufacturing
  • Self-Starter / Self-Motivated / Flexible
  • Works in an office and machine shop environment.
  • May on a continuous basis walk, bend and lift up to 40 lbs.

Working conditions

  • Office environment within a manufacturing facility.
  • Required to test and prove programs on the shop floor

Physical requirements

  • Must be able to move, lift, transport items at minimum of 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to consistently operate a computer/office productivity machinery i.e., calculator, copy machine, printer for a minimum of 6 hours per day.
  • Must be able to remain stationary for a minimum of 2 hours per day.
  • Must be able to detect and correct errors on paper/screens.
  • Must be able to communicate and exchange information with other members of the organization verbally, nonverbally, and in writing.
  • Must be able to move throughout the facility and office area to access file cabinets, office equipment, plant machinery, and other office areas as needed.
