Job description

Summary:
The Finishing Supervisor will lead our finishing team, ensuring optimal efficiency and effectiveness across our finishing operations. This supervisory oversight includes responsibility for each operation within Building Two, guaranteeing that our products consistently meet stringent quality standards, customer schedules are adhered to, and safety protocols are rigorously upheld. The ideal candidate will possess robust leadership skills, a profound mastery of manufacturing techniques, and an unwavering dedication to achieving excellence. This individual will have demonstrated the ability to assist the team in efforts to improve operational effectiveness and can execute strategies as needed to deliver business results. The key metrics of success are summarized by SQDEP+. Safety, Quality, Delivery, Equipment, and Productivity. The (+) represents non-tangible and/or environmental attributes that are difficult to measure such as employee engagement, organization wide culture, and other similar impactful elements of a healthy work culture. The Finishing Supervisor will work in collaboration with the managers and should act as an aid to support business objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities are, but not limited to:
  • Supervision and Leadership: Lead and motivate a diverse team comprised of front-line manufacturing staff, machine operators, and production leaders. Promote an environment of collaboration and excellence, driving maximum productivity and efficiency while instilling a culture of continuous improvement and skill enhancement.
  • Production Planning: Plan and follow production schedules to meet business targets and deadlines, coordinating with other departments as necessary.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that all production products and processes meet quality standards and specifications, conducting inspections and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Process Optimization: Be an active participant of the Lean Manufacturing team with regular participation in our Schaefer's Production System, Kaizen improvement initiatives. Continuously evaluate production processes and procedures to identify areas for improvement and implement measures to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Training and Development: Offer thorough training to new hires and current employees on Schaefer's Quality Management System documentation, fostering consistency in results and safe equipment operation. Continuously seek out training and development opportunities to propel the business forward.
  • Safety Compliance: Promote a culture of safety awareness enforcing safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe work environment. Engage with and support the Safety Leader, and immediately address any safety concerns or violations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in final assembly, painting, or manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience in a supervisory or leadership position
  • Lean Manufacturing experience and/or exposure is preferred.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong technical knowledge of assembly or painting techniques, equipment, and materials.
  • Exhibit outstanding leadership and communication aptitude, effectively motivating and managing teams to accomplish defined objectives.
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Efficiently collaborate with cross-functional teams as needed to drive the business performance forward.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and other relevant software applications.

Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking 8-10 hours depending on the task.
  • Must be able to lift, up to 50lbs., on occasion.
  • The use of approved Safety Glasses, hearing protection, and safety-toed boots are required. Gloves may be required depending on certain tasks assigned.
