Reports to: Department Supervisor                    

Direct Reports: None

FLSA: Hourly, non-exempt                                

Pay Grade: II

Summary:

The Assembly Finishing Operator position produces finished components and parts under the department’s supervisor and the direction of the Finishing Manager.  The Assembly Finishing Operator prepares the work cell to build/route/weld and inspects parts for quality conformance according to the customer and production standards outlined in work instructions. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Follow written work instructions.
  • Fulfill production requirements to meet or exceed customer on-time delivery.
  • Inspect parts throughout the production process to verify quality expectations are being meet or exceeded.
  • Detects and reports nonconforming materials to area lead or direct supervisor.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work area through regular housekeeping.
  • Maintain accurate internal production records.
  • Must be able to perform but not limited to the following tasks: insert purchase components, prepare work area, prepare packaging materials, comprehend and follow daily schedule/manifest, assemble/build to the WI, correctly use the computerized labeling system, correctly package parts, report scrap.
  • Must be able to use but not limited to the following tools: gate cutter, welders, packaging materials, utility knives, deburrers, routers, buffers, clip pusher, torch, sandpaper, drill, hammer, PPE, fixtures, pliers, screw drivers, rivet guns, glue guns, hammers, air hoses, staplers, and verification stations.
  • Must be familiar with the basic machinery functions in order to perform the tasks stated above.
  • Must be willing to accept and receive frequent supervision and assistance with regard to machinery and quality of parts
  • Periodic duties: rework, assisting in other work cells, and manually working parts if the automated machinery is unavailable.
  • Maintains awareness of the relevance and importance of activities and how each contributes to achieving quality objectives.
  • Prompt and regular attendance as scheduled.
  • Behaves in a professional manner.
  • Works safely and without injury through adherence to all safety rules and guidelines.
  • Participates in the biannual plant inventory.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED
·       Previous manufacturing experience desired
  • Must complete ConMet provided operator certification

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.  In the case of a safety or quality issue, the operator may utilize the emergency stop and immediately contact their direct lead or supervisor to fully shut machinery down. The operator is responsible for elevating repetitive nonconforming parts that exceed the production limit to a lead, supervisor, or technician.

 

Language Skills:

Ability to read, write, verbalize and comprehend instructions and correspondence in the English language.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.  Must have basic computer literacy.

Mathematical Skills:

Must have adequate mathematical skills to count and calculate.

Physical and Visual Activities:

Standing, walking, lifting, carrying, balancing, stooping, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, acuity-far, acuity-near, depth perception and field of vision.

Physical Demands:

Requires a combination of standing and walking.  The press operator must lift up to 35 pounds regularly.   May require lifting up to 50 pounds with assistance.  Use of hands/fine motor skills.  

 

Environment/Atmospheric Conditions:

This position requires working in a shop environment. May be exposed to loud operating machinery, high or low temperatures, hydrologic oil, chemicals, dust, and vapors.

Assembly cell/department computer, labeling system, and other software specific to this position’s duties.   Must be able to use but not limited to the following tools: gate cutter, welders, packaging materials, utility knives, deburrers, routers, buffers, clip pusher, torch, sandpaper, drill, hammer, PPE, fixtures, pliers, screw drivers, rivet guns, glue guns, hammers, air hoses, staplers, and verification stations. Must understand working with the automated machinery and fixtures in the area.
