Job description

Job Title: Shipping SupervisorJob Description

The Shipping Supervisor oversees the accuracy and timely execution of all shipping operations, ensuring that finished goods move efficiently, safely, and in compliance with food safety and regulatory standards. This role leads the shipping team, coordinates warehouse activities, and maintains strict adherence to company policies, quality requirements, and documentation processes.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily shipping operations to ensure accurate and timely processing of all outgoing shipments.
  • Follow and enforce food safety, SQF, OSHA, and company policies and procedures throughout all shipping activities.
  • Train, coach, and guide shipping employees on standard operating procedures, safety practices, and quality requirements.
  • Provide feedback on new procedures and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the shipping department.
  • Lead the shipping team in performing cycle counts and participating in inventory projects.
  • Execute various ERP system transactions related to shipping, inventory, and warehouse movements with high accuracy.
  • Move materials within the warehouse as needed to support shipping, staging, and storage activities.
  • Organize the finished goods warehouse to maintain order, maximize space, and ensure compliance with food safety and SQF policies.
  • Properly label finished goods according to pick list instructions and verify that all labels match shipment requirements.
  • Prepare sales order shipments and transfer products to the shipping staging area, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Follow packing slip instructions carefully and verify the accuracy of product type, quantity, and related documentation.
  • Review and maintain shipping documents to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with internal and external requirements.
  • Report any non-conformances, discrepancies, or issues to the Department Manager in a timely manner.
  • Load customer shipments onto trucks safely and in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as backup for the Shipping Manager as needed, providing leadership and decision-making support.
  • Follow safety rules, including GMPs and HACCP guidelines, and ensure proper chocking of wheels and other safety measures.
  • Collaborate with multiple departments to coordinate customer orders and ensure on-time, accurate fulfillment.
  • Inspect outgoing shipments to confirm that materials meet specified requirements and quality standards.
  • Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels for ongoing operations.
  • Operate lift trucks and hand trucks to move, load, and unload materials safely and efficiently.
  • Perform shipping and receiving tasks, including checking in deliveries and verifying quantities and conditions.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned to support the smooth operation of the warehouse and shipping functions.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience in shipping and receiving operations.
  • Hands-on experience with inventory management activities, including cycle counts and inventory projects.
  • Forklift and lift truck operation experience, including safe handling of materials.
  • Ability to operate hand trucks and other material-handling equipment safely.
  • Strong attention to detail when following packing slips, pick lists, and shipping documentation.
  • Ability to train, coach, and guide employees in shipping procedures and safety practices.
  • Capability to perform ERP system transactions accurately for shipping and inventory processes.
  • HazMat Certification.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations.
  • Knowledge of IATA requirements.
  • Familiarity with GMPs and HACCP rules and their application in a warehouse or food-related environment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple departments to service customer orders.
  • Reliability to work scheduled hours (8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. or 9:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m.).
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance in accordance with company grooming requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in a food manufacturing or food distribution environment with SQF and food safety standards.
  • Experience organizing finished goods warehouses to support efficient storage and retrieval.

Work Environment

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
