Job description

Responsible for teaching safe, fun and effective dance classes to children and adults. Works directly with the Dance Coordinator to maintain continuing education on safety, different class formats and teaching skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Attend instructor meetings and chorography seminars.
  2. Stay current with the latest safety information and research in the dance industry.
  3. Maintain current CPR and national dance certification(s).
  4. Participate in special events.
  5. Use music with appropriate lyrics as established by the Program Director.
  6. Cover your classes when you are unable to teach. Classes are not to be cancelled.
  7. Keep the music library organized, keep the equipment organized, straighten up after your class.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Memory recognition of members and their names
  • Ability to operate audio equipment such as CD/Tape player and headphones
  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs
  • Able to maintain count
  • Ability to project voice over music
  • Jump, kick, step, lunge, stand, sit, push, pull, stretch, lift, and various dance movements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Hold current certifications or at least two years teaching experience in specialty classes such as: Ballet, Jazz, Tap and other dance forms.
  • Maintain continuing education credits as appropriate to maintain certifications.
