Job description

Overview
As a Manufacturing Engineer for Lutron based out of the Virginia Manufacturing Facility, you'll help shape how our industry's leading smart lighting and shading products are built at scale. You'll collaborate with product design, production plant, and tooling teams to design products for high-volume manufacturability, applying DfM and DfA principles to influence new designs.
You'll take ownership of assembly line design and process development and support new products from prototype builds through transfer to long-term facilities, helping create efficient tooling, workstations, and production flows. You'll also collect and analyze process quality data, sharing insights with key stakeholders, and driving improvements that enhance throughput and reliability.
If you're excited about a career with mentorship, hands-on experience, and exposure across the business, where you can see your work directly impact products used around the world, Lutron is the place to start your journey.
There are a variety of technical areas throughout the product lifecycle that you could encounter from day one, such as:
  • Application of Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DfM and DfA) principles, and how to provide effective feedback to product design teams throughout design cycle
  • Project management skills, particularly related to coordinating logistics and efforts between engineering, operations, and manufacturing plant
  • Industry standard techniques and best practices for manufacturing quality improvement, such as Six Sigma
  • Assembly process development and optimization, including time studies, production line balancing, and pareto/defect analysis
  • Development and effective documentation of standard work procedures and product manufacturing process notebooks
  • Specification of requirements for tooling and workstations

Responsibilities
  • Collaborating with product design, production plant, and tooling teams to design consumer products for high-volume manufacturability
  • Utilizing Design for Manufacturing (DfM) and Design for Assembly (DfA) concepts to analyze new products
  • Executing assembly line design and process development to meet labor and quality goals
  • Supporting production of new products, from prototype builds through transfer to a long-term facility
  • Collecting and analyzing process quality data for presentation to key stakeholders

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum, cumulative GPA of 3.00 for each degree earned
  • 0-3 years' experience in a related field
  • You are authorized to work in the U.S. and will not require Lutron to sponsor you for any work visa, such as an H-1B, either immediately or at any time in the future. Lutron does not offer work visa sponsorship for this position
  • Willingness to travel up to 10 - 20% of the time for inter-office collaboration
  • Willingness and ability to work on-site 5 days per week

Starting pay: $85,000 to $90,000 per year plus bonus. Lutron's employee benefits include 401k match, health, dental, and life insurance, paid vacation (amount based on tenure with the company), flexible spending accounts, and tuition reimbursement programs.
