Summary:

Vighter is recruiting multiple Pharmacy Technicians (Pharm Techs) for positions at Luke Air Force Base (LAFB), AZ. Pharmacy technicians perform a variety of tasks to ensure patients receive the correct medication and care, including gathering information from customers and health professionals to fill prescriptions, and measuring, mixing and calculating the correct amounts and dosages of medication for prescriptions.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Perform inpatient pharmacy technician duties including, but not limited to, entering orders into electronic health records, compound intravenous medication orders, compound Chemo therapeutic intravenous medications. 
  • Understand and enforce compliance with USP 797 and USP 800 regulations to include proper wear of barrier/protective clothing, beyond use dating, and aseptic techniques.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with The Joint Commission regulations throughout the facility.
  • Manage patient-specific pharmacokinetic regimens to include vancomycin, anticoagulants, and aminoglycosides.
  • Assess metabolic needs and order therapeutic parenteral nutrition products.
  • Provide medication and healthcare related in-service training to clinical staff on new medications on the market, appropriate use of medications, comparison of current medication therapies, and other topics as deemed appropriate by the department head.
  • Provide clinical directions to pharmacy personnel.
  • Consult with patient care teams through multi-disciplinary rounds and antimicrobial stewardship monitoring to ensure evidence-based patient care.
  • Document pharmacy interventions appropriately in the EHR.
  • Document significant adverse medication events with prescribers, in the patient’s medical record, and in the Patient Safety Reporting system.
  • Document and report patient safety concerns using the Patient Safety Reporting system.
  • Facilitate medical staff drug utilization reviews (DURs) as deemed necessary.
  • Exhibit basic competency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Perform ward and clinic inspections, maintain pharmacy automation systems, and deliver Pyxis and patient orders to wards and clinics. 
  • A deep sense of purpose and dedication to the United States and our U.S. Military Veterans, their Families, and other patients as assigned.
  • An unshakeable adherence to quality and continuous process improvement.
  • An apolitical, patient-centered focus that drives to enhanced care and patient satisfaction
  • Knowledge of regulations (HIPAA/Privacy Act) regarding the confidentiality of patient medical records and information as well as Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
  • Performs other duties that may be assigned from time to time.


Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must have exceptional customer service skills.
  • Employees shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the job requirements, including ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment with limited supervision
  • Excellent organizational, scheduling and prioritization skills.

 

Education:


  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency is required. 
  • One (1) year of experience in a hospital-based pharmacy is required, two (2) years of experience is preferred.
Qualifications:
  • Current certification as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Health career Association (NHA ExCPT).

 

Duty Hours / On-call Requirements 

  • Pharmacy activities are open 24/7/365 to include days, nights, weekends and holidays. Acceptable candidates must have mild schedule flexibility and be willing to work as needed.
  • All candidates are required to provide any schedule limitations before acceptance. We try our best to accommodate your schedule, so please inform Vighter of any schedule limitations in advance.

Work Environment

  • Location: Luke Air Force Base, AZ.
  • Job locations within LAFB present a wide range of opportunities Ambulatory Care Pharmacy; Critical Care Pharmacy; Nuclear Pharmacy; Nutrition Support Pharmacy; Oncology Pharmacy; Pediatric Pharmacy; Pharmacotherapy Pharmacy; Psychiatric Pharmacy.

Travel:

  • As required to satisfy the contractual obligations. Generally, travel is limited to commute from residence to place of work and back. Commute time and distance is non-compensatory.

  • Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders.
  • Must be able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print.
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
  • Must be able to perform duties in an indoor office or outdoor environment.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation.
  • Must undergo Urine Drug Screening (UDS).
  • Must be a Citizen of the United States or legally authorized to work in the United States of America.
