How much do lte optimization engineer jobs pay per year?
What does an LTE Optimization Engineer do?
As an LTE Optimization Engineer, your daily responsibilities usually involve analyzing network performance data, identifying optimization opportunities, and troubleshooting radio network issues. You will use advanced tools to monitor KPIs, conduct drive tests, and suggest parameter changes to improve network quality and user experience. Collaboration with RF engineers, network planners, and field teams is essential, and you'll often participate in meetings to discuss strategies for ongoing network improvements. This role provides hands-on problem-solving in a dynamic environment where your contributions directly impact overall network performance.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an LTE Optimization Engineer?
To thrive as an LTE Optimization Engineer, you need strong expertise in wireless communications, radio frequency (RF) engineering, and cellular network performance analysis, typically supported by a degree in telecommunications, electrical engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with LTE network management tools (such as TEMS, Actix, or Atoll), KPI monitoring systems, and relevant industry certifications (like Nokia, Ericsson, or Huawei vendor training) is highly valued. Excellent problem-solving abilities, analytical skills, and effective collaboration with cross-functional teams help set top candidates apart. These abilities are crucial for identifying and resolving network performance issues, optimizing user experience, and ensuring the reliability of LTE networks.
What is an LTE Optimization Engineer?
An LTE Optimization Engineer is responsible for analyzing and improving the performance of LTE networks to ensure optimal efficiency, capacity, and coverage. They use key performance indicators (KPIs), drive tests, and network analytics to identify issues such as call drops, low data speeds, and interference. Their work involves adjusting network parameters, optimizing radio frequency (RF) settings, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance overall network quality. The goal is to provide users with a seamless and high-quality mobile experience while maximizing network resources.

Job description
OUR TEAM AND WHAT WE'LL ACCOMPLISH TOGETHER
The Strategic Projects team is at the forefront of TELUS's network evolution, delivering transformational initiatives that will reshape how we connect Canadians. As a Senior Design Specialist, you'll play a pivotal role in architecting, designing, and delivering solutions such as Satellite direct-to-cell, 5G Network slicing, connected cars, and other emerging technologies. You'll work autonomously across CTO, Business, CIO, Regulatory, and Legal stakeholders to translate competing priorities into cohesive technical solutions, making critical architectural decisions that will define our network's future.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Architect and design end-to-end solutions for emerging network technologies (Satellite direct-to-cell, 5G Network slicing, connected cars) that align with TELUS's strategic roadmap and technical standards
- Lead cross-functional design reviews and technical discussions with CTO, Business, CIO, Regulatory, and Legal stakeholders to translate LTE/5G technical aspects into business impact and gather requirements that inform architectural decisions
- Develop detailed technical specifications, design documents, and architectural diagrams that translate complex requirements into implementable solutions, including validation of vendor compliance to industry and TELUS standards
- Conduct lab proof-of-concept testing and interoperability testing to validate emerging technologies, evaluate vendor solutions, and identify optimization opportunities aligned with 3GPP specifications and RAN best practices
- Proactively communicate TELUS requirements to vendors, evaluate responses, and propose solutions and feature optimization engineering guidelines that support field teams and operational excellence
- Drive independent decision-making on architectural trade-offs, technical feasibility, and implementation approaches in a fast-paced environment, while providing technical guidance and support to engineering teams
- Stay informed of the latest wireless technology developments (5G evolution, O-RAN, Network slicing, SDN/virtualization, AI & Machine learning) and establish design best practices that elevate the organization's technical capabilities
WHAT YOU BRING
- 10+ years of experience in wireless communication industry with deep expertise across RAN, core network, and transport architecture
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with LTE/5G network design, optimization, and technology introduction across multiple network domains (RAN, core, transport)
- Solid understanding of 3GPP specifications and how they apply across the full network stack (air interface, RRM, MM, RF compliance, core protocols)
- Demonstrated expertise in emerging network technologies including O-RAN, V-RAN, SDN/virtualization, and cloud technology, with strong understanding of industry evolution and future network trends
- Real-world experience architecting, designing, or implementing 5G Network slicing solutions with operators, including deep understanding of slicing architecture, orchestration, and operational models
- Hands-on experience with Satellite direct-to-cell technology architecture and integration with terrestrial networks
- Strong ability to translate complex technical concepts into business impact and communicate architectural decisions across diverse stakeholder groups (technical and non-technical)
- Proactive, self-directed approach to problem-solving with ability to make independent architectural decisions in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
GREAT-TO-HAVES
- Exceptional ability to build relationships and influence across diverse stakeholder groups (technical and non-technical, internal and external), with proven success navigating competing priorities and driving consensus
- Demonstrated skill in breaking down complex technical problems into understandable components and communicating solutions in a way that resonates with audiences at all levels
- Familiarity with vendor management and RFP evaluation processes for network infrastructure and emerging technology solutions
