Job Summary:

This position supports transmission, interconnection, policy and market activities for utility-scale renewable energy and energy storage projects. Responsibilities include providing transmission & interconnection support for greenfield development & acquisition, supporting execution for advanced projects and supporting existing operational assets. This position will primarily support REV’s Western US development activities but may also support Eastern US development. Experience with CAISO/WECC on generator interconnection processes, transmission planning, and power market analysis desired. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Support company’s power generation project development, acquisition, and operations activities in the areas of electric transmission/interconnection/markets.
  • Support preparing, submitting, and managing generator interconnection requests and follow study processes as needed.
  • Perform power flow analysis, review models, and review studies to determine potential upgrade and costs associated with interconnection.
  • Coordinate, review, and interpret interconnection and transmission studies (short circuit, transient stability, and load flow) performed by utilities and outside consultants. 
  • Support developing strategies to enter new markets and select preferred zones within various markets for greenfield development.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of evolving power markets in the West with a focus on key Transmission Planning, Generation Interconnection & policy activities at CAISO and Utilities, follow select proceedings at CPUC & CEC, follow developments within WECC such as CAISO Extended Day Ahead Markets, SPP Markets+ and Regional Organization of Western Energy.
  • Support M&A team as needed on transmission, interconnection & congestion issues and support developing views on preferred markets / zones.
  • Assist in developing supply stack assumptions across various markets. Support performing economic assessment / production cost modelling as needed to support due diligence activities.
  • Follow key ISO/RTO stakeholder processes and provide inputs to the team on key market/policy issues and participate in select industry trade associations meetings.
  • Support execution of existing advanced portfolio in the West including coordination with internal Engineering & Construction teams, Utilities & CAISO, negotiating Interconnection Agreements, filing Material Modifications as required.

Required Education/Skills/Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or in a similar engineering field required. 
  • 6-10 years of relevant experience in transmission planning, generator interconnection, power systems engineering, transmission consulting, utility planning, or renewable energy development.
  • Direct experience with CAISO and WECC interconnection and transmission planning processes required
  • Experience supporting transmission interconnection activities with Developer, Consultant, ISO/RTO or Utility preferred
  • Working knowledge of the interconnection processes & market structures across CAISO and utilities in WECC including familiarity with Transmission Service Request processes
  • Experience with load flow analysis tools such as GE PSLF, PowerGEM TARA, PSSE or PowerWorld required.
  • Experience with economic analysis tools such as PROMOD, Gridview, Dayzer preferred. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under time constraints.
  • PE license preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to sit/stand at a desk, using a computer workstation. 
  • The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach with hands and arms, walk; lift push or pull objects up to 20 pounds. 
  • Must be able to handle long periods of screen time and typing. 
  • Must be able to have effective time management skills, with the ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
