Summary 

This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all subsidiary and third-party cranes, contributing to the successful execution of projects while adhering to the highest standards of safety, quality and production/profitability.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Safety and Compliance: A superintendent’s main focus, while overseeing cranes and operators, is contributing to employee safety and creating a safe work environment. Superintendents ensure safety rules are followed by training and coaching employees, leading by example, and by ensuring compliance with all safety policies (including customer policies).  Superintendents are also an integral part of crane incident investigation. 
  • Production and Profitability: Oversee and coordinate crane operations to ensure timely and accurate execution of project tasks. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and site supervision to optimize crane usage and project schedules. Provide estimates for crane mobilization and demobilization; including transportation of 3rd party cranes. 
  • Equipment Management: Manage crane inventory, maintenance, and repairs including all required recordkeeping. Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure cranes are in excellent working condition and comply with industry standards. 
  • Recruiting and Retention of Manpower:  This position actively participates in the recruitment and manpower planning process to ensure a skilled workforce is available for projects, including coordinating backup when operators are on time off and maintaining appropriate backup for projects with badging requirements. The superintendent works closely with the Recruiting department to attract and hire qualified individuals. They will implement measures to retain manpower, such as fostering a positive work culture and offering growth opportunities. 
  • People Leadership and Development: Superintendents will lead and guide their team. They will provide clear instructions, assign tasks, give regular performance reviews in collaboration with site superintendents and motivate the team to achieve project goals. Additionally, they will identify training needs and provide necessary coaching or discipline to enhance the skills and knowledge of team members and hold them accountable.

Required Experience

Minimum Qualifications/Experience/Education 

  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • Valid NCCER or NCCCO Mobile Crane Operator certification - 7 years minimum preferred 
  • Current driver license with a good driving record 
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and software  
  • Proven experience as a Crane Operator with experience in supervisory or managerial roles 
  • Strong understanding of crane operation techniques, safety protocols, and maintenance practices 
  • Willing/able to travel 
  • Budget conscious and resourceful
