Job description

Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN) - Medical Surgical / Telemetry

Profession: LVN / LPN
Specialty: Medical Surgical / Telemetry
Shift: Day - 3x12-Hour Shifts (07:00 - 19:00)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

This role supports a 14-bed Medical Surgical / Telemetry overflow unit designed to accommodate Emergency Department boarder patients. The unit operates as a flexible care space within an existing procedural area, with patient census fluctuating based on demand. The LPN/LVN will deliver direct patient care under RN supervision in an acute care setting.


Schedule & Coverage
  • Day shifts: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM

  • Weekend coverage: Every other weekend

  • Call: May be required depending on staffing needs

  • Floating: Required, based on unit needs, within Medical Surgical scope of practice


Licensure & Certifications
  • Active LPN/LVN license (state-specific)

  • BLS certification required

  • Pending licenses not accepted


Experience Requirements
  • Minimum 1 year of acute care experience

  • Medical Surgical and/or Telemetry experience required

  • Previous charge experience preferred

  • First-time travelers accepted


Required Clinical Skills
  • Medical Surgical and Telemetry patient care

  • Emergency Department exposure

  • Blood glucose monitoring and testing

  • Feeding tube, NG tube, and G-tube care

  • Foley catheter insertion (male and female)

  • Medication administration: oral, IM, SQ, eye/ear drops

  • Oxygen therapy (nasal cannula, face mask)

  • Patient ambulation and hygiene care

  • Vital signs monitoring

  • Isolation precautions

  • Admission support and patient transfers

  • Communication of patient condition changes to RN/MD


Documentation & Communication
  • EPIC EMR experience required

  • SBAR communication for ED patients

  • Verbal handoff for non-ED admissions and transfers
