Rainbow Grocery Cooperative Produce Job Description

Position:  Receiver/Stocker

General Description:  Help receive and put away orders. Rotate and stock product.  Create and maintain floor displays.  Communicate with buyers and floor workers. Provide excellent customer service by answering questions and sampling product. Deep cleaning of refrigeration equipment and all designated Produce work areas.

Hours:  Part to full-time (25-40 hours/week).  Early morning (5am-1:30pm) and late evening (1:30pm-9:30pm shifts).

Job Specifications: 

Essential Functions:

  • Lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly
  • Able to operate electric and manual pallet jack, hand truck
  • Work early mornings and/or late nights
  • Follow Rainbow's safety and security guidelines and procedures
  • Able to stand/walk for 4 hours at a time
  • Attend department and storewide membership meetings
  • Work with the public

Other Responsibilities and Qualifications:

  • Communicate with co- floor workers and buyers
  • Keep backstock organized and tidy
  • Able to work in a cooperative environment
  • Able to participate in the collective process, facilitate meetings etc.
  • Self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision
  • Dependable, punctual
  • Knowledge of handling, care and varieties of fresh organic produce
  • Willing to work weekends

Wages and Benefits:

Starting pay $22.60 an hour. Full medical/dental/vision insurance for full time workers (27 or more hours/week); 401(k) retirement plan; eight paid holidays; pay for time off (vacation, sick and personal days); profit sharing ("patronage dividend") upon becoming a member-owner of cooperative (vast majority of workers have become members in the first year of employment).
