Low Voltage Helpers are entry-level workers who assist technicians in installing, maintaining, and repairing low voltage electrical systems. These systems include security alarms, fire alarms, data and communication networks, audio/visual equipment, and other wiring systems that operate at 50 volts or less. Low Voltage Helpers typically handle tasks such as pulling cables, mounting hardware, organizing tools, and following instructions from experienced technicians. This role is an excellent starting point for individuals interested in electrical or technology-based careers, as it provides hands-on experience and a pathway to more advanced positions.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a low voltage helper and how do they support senior technicians?

As a Low Voltage Helper, your daily tasks often include assisting with the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of low voltage systems such as security cameras, alarm systems, and data cabling. You’ll be responsible for pulling cable, preparing and organizing tools and materials, and ensuring job sites remain safe and clean. Working closely with senior technicians, you’ll help with equipment setup and may learn to use basic testing devices under supervision. This hands-on support is crucial in keeping projects on schedule and also provides valuable learning opportunities for career growth.

  • Prepare and maintain detailed estimate backup, assumptions, clarifications, and Basis of Estimate (BOE) documentation
  • Participate in estimate reviews, reconciliation meetings, and design coordination discussions with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Identify cost drivers, escalation impacts, procurement risks (e.g., switchgear, transformers, generators), and constructability considerations affecting electrical systems
  • Support value engineering and cost optimization efforts through system comparisons, alternate analysis, and lifecycle considerations
  • Assist in evaluating subcontractor proposals, bid comparisons, and change order pricing related to electrical scope
  • Maintain organized project documentation and ensure traceability of quantities, pricing, and assumptions
  • Support QA/QC processes by validating quantities, pricing logic, and estimate completeness prior to submission

Qualifications/Requirements:
