Mechanical Designer II – P&ID DeveloperExperience Level: 5–10 Years Location: Moss Point, MS Employment Type: Contract 1 Year Client- Southern Company Services.Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer II – P&ID Developer with 5–10 years of experience in industrial process environments. This role is responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) that accurately represent piping systems, equipment, instrumentation, and control systems.The ideal candidate will work closely with engineering teams to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient system designs while maintaining high standards of documentation accuracy and quality control.Key ResponsibilitiesP&ID DevelopmentCreate and update P&IDs using industry-standard software (AutoCAD or equivalent)Accurately represent piping layouts, process flow, equipment, instrumentation, and control loopsMaintain asset naming and numbering conventionsCollaborationWork closely with mechanical, process, and project engineersInterpret design requirements and ensure P&IDs meet engineering specificationsCommunicate design concepts and updates to project stakeholdersDocumentation & ComplianceGenerate detailed P&ID documentation including:Equipment symbolsInstrumentation detailsPiping layoutsControl loopsEnsure compliance with safety regulations, industry standards, and project requirementsComponent & System SupportCollaborate on selection of piping materials, valves, instruments, and related componentsSupport design decisions based on operational and process requirementsChange Management & Quality ControlTrack and document P&ID revisionsManage change updates and notify stakeholders accordinglyReview and validate P&IDs for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project goalsPerform field walkdowns to verify accuracy of CAD drawingsAs-Built DocumentationDevelop as-built P&IDs reflecting actual system configurations after construction or modificationsConduct QC checks to ensure alignment between field conditions and design documentationTraining & MentorshipProvide guidance and training to junior designers and draftersSupport team development in P&ID best practicesRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or related field5–10 years of mechanical design experience with a strong focus on P&ID developmentProficiency in AutoCAD (or equivalent P&ID software)In-depth understanding of industrial processes, equipment, and instrumentationKnowledge of applicable safety regulations and industry standardsStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsExcellent communication and collaboration abilitiesHigh attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality documentationPreferred ExperienceExperience in manufacturing, power generation, chemical processing, oil & gas, or heavy industrial environmentsExperience conducting field walkdowns and redline updates.
